Diet for half a year after rectal cancer surgery

Diet for half a year after rectal cancer surgery

In recent years, the incidence of rectal cancer has been increasing, and it has become the third most common malignant tumor that endangers human health. Rectal cancer refers to the cancer between the dentate line and the junction of the rectum and sigmoid colon, and is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract. Its cause is also related to the diet structure, so it is extremely important to pay attention to diet and health care after rectal cancer surgery.

(1) Patients with colon and rectal cancer often suffer from recurrent, persistent diarrhea and have poor digestive abilities, so they should be given foods that are easily digestible and absorbable.

(2) Colorectal cancer patients often have blood in their stools, and patients in the late stage often have large amounts of blood in their stools. Therefore, they should eat less or no irritating and spicy foods.

(3) Patients with chronic diarrhea or patients in the late stage have long-term fever, sweating, and damage to body fluids. Therefore, they should drink more water or soup, and the staple food can be semi-liquid food such as porridge and noodles.

(4) Most patients experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, and even vomiting, so they should eat a light diet and avoid greasy foods.

(5) Patients with advanced colorectal cancer suffer from chronic diarrhea, bloody stools, fever, and loss of nutrients and water. They become emaciated, lose weight, and suffer from deficiency of both Qi and blood. They should take nutritious tonic medicinal foods.

After rectal cancer surgery, patients should eat a high-calorie, high-protein, high-vitamin diet. High-calorie foods are mainly starchy foods (such as potatoes), but high-fat foods should not be eaten too much; high-protein foods include various lean meats, milk, fish, soy products, etc.; fresh vegetables and fruits are the main sources of vitamins and fiber. Chicken, eggs and seafood are commonly known as "irritants", but in fact they are not on the list of dietary taboos.
