What tests should be done for brain cancer

Many brain cancer patients lose their lives in the late stage of brain cancer because brain cancer is not discovered in time in the early stage. Therefore, the diagnosis and detection of brain cancer is very important. So what kind of examinations should be done for brain cancer? The following will tell you about the diagnosis and detection of brain cancer, hoping to help you.

1. Fundus examination: observe whether there is optic nerve head edema. Papilledema is a sign of increased intracranial pressure. It is called the "three symptoms" of increased intracranial pressure together with headache and vomiting. However, it is only seen in one-quarter of brain cancer patients. Therefore, the possibility of brain cancer cannot be simply ruled out by a negative eye examination.

2. Head X-ray: This method of diagnosing brain cancer helps to understand whether there is increased intracranial pressure, local destruction or hyperplasia of the skull, enlargement of the sella turcica, displacement of pineal calcification and pathological calcification in brain cancer. It is helpful for positioning and qualitative diagnosis, but the positive rate of brain cancer diagnosis by X-ray is less than one-third, so brain tumors cannot be ruled out due to negative X-ray results.

3. Electroencephalogram examination: It has the value of locating fast-growing brain tumors in the cerebral hemispheres. It can be seen that the amplitude of the waves on the affected side is reduced and the frequency is slowed down. However, it is not very helpful for the diagnosis of brain cancers in the midline, deep in the hemisphere and under the tentorium.

In the past, the diagnosis of brain cancer mainly relied on clinical symptoms, physical signs, neurological examinations, and positive results of X-ray head radiographs. Currently, head CT scans or magnetic resonance imaging are used, with a detection rate of over 90%, and can be as high as 99.7%, which helps to detect the disease early. The diagnosis of brain cancer must include localization diagnosis and qualitative diagnosis, so that a comprehensive judgment can be made and effective treatment measures can be determined.
