My mother got lung cancer. Is it hereditary?

Is it hereditary for my mother to have lung cancer? Lung cancer is a very harmful tumor disease, and its incidence rate is relatively high in my country. And the speed of metastasis and spread is very fast. For patients with lung cancer, it is very important to get treatment as soon as possible, and there is no time to lose. And there are many reasons for lung cancer in daily life, so do you know if it is hereditary for my mother to have lung cancer? Many patients are very concerned, let's learn more about it below:

It is currently believed that cancer is not a direct hereditary disease, but a small number of cancers tend to have family causes. If someone in the family has cancer, then their children are several times more likely to have cancer than children from healthy families. These cancers are called hereditary familial cancers. The influence of this genetic factor is medically known as "genetic susceptibility."

1. Lung cancer is generally not inherited. Lung cancer is an acquired disease. The main reasons why patients get lung cancer are smoking, air pollution, occupational factors (exposure to radioactive substances or carcinogenic chemicals such as tin, chromium, asbestos, etc.), chronic lung diseases (such as tuberculosis, silicosis, pneumoconiosis, etc.

2. Cancer is a disease with a genetic tendency, but it does not mean that the offspring of cancer patients will have cancer. If your elders have lung cancer, then under the stimulation of the same carcinogenic factors, your chance of getting lung cancer is greater than others. As for how much greater the chance is, it is unknown, because the stimulation of carcinogenic factors is the main cause of lung cancer.

3. You need to learn to prevent. For the family members of lung cancer patients, if they can prevent it early, they can prevent lung cancer from happening to themselves. If you know that there is a history of a certain type of cancer in your family, you should take early prevention measures. First of all, you should take good care of yourself, change your bad eating habits, eat less fried and smoked foods, quit smoking and limit alcohol, and eat more anti-cancer foods, such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes, milk, etc. Secondly, you should develop good living habits, have a regular work and rest schedule, not stay up late, stay away from decoration pollution; strengthen physical exercise to enhance resistance; and maintain a good attitude and look at cancer correctly. In addition, you should have regular physical examinations and screenings every year. Once you find signs of early cancer, you should receive timely treatment to control the disease.
