Can masks prevent formaldehyde?

Many people think that if they wear a mask they can prevent formaldehyde and it will not cause any harm to their body. But in fact, wearing a mask has no effect on formaldehyde. The only effect is limited to masks such as activated carbon. Therefore, it is best to avoid living in a room with excessive formaldehyde, otherwise it will cause problems with various organs.

Ordinary masks have basically no effect, the only one that is somewhat effective is the activated carbon mask.

Because activated carbon has adsorption effect, masks made of activated carbon can absorb all harmful gases into the gaps. To achieve the adsorption effect, two points must be met: 1. There are enough small pores; 2. The pore size must be appropriate, and the number of useful pore sizes among all the pore sizes of the adsorbent should be screened according to the size of the pollutant molecules to be adsorbed.

When it comes to adsorbing harmful gases such as formaldehyde and benzene, the effective pore size of activated carbon is over 90%, and some of them are useless large pores. After adsorption, the gases either continue to move into small pores or come out on their own. The harmful substances adsorbed into the effective pore size cannot come out by their own power, and the energy required far exceeds the energy possessed by molecular motion. Moreover, the mask has a certain thickness and number of layers, which adsorb and filter layer by layer to ensure the adsorption effect. So when it gets close to the nasal cavity, the harmful substances have been adsorbed many times~~ However, powdered activated carbon easily absorbs water and becomes saturated, so it needs to be exposed to the sun frequently~ What is released by the sun is not the adsorbed harmful gases, but water vapor

Toxic particles in the air during haze days are also an important cause of cardiovascular diseases.

In addition to cancer, smog is also a heart killer. Particulate pollutants in haze days can not only trigger myocardial infarction, but also cause myocardial ischemia or damage. Chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, rhinitis, upper and lower respiratory tract infections and other common respiratory system diseases

Diseases may also be acutely triggered by smog.

Haze weather weakens ultraviolet rays in the near-ground layer, which can easily increase the activity of pathogens in the air. Fine particles will "carry" bacteria and viruses deep into the respiratory system and cause infection. It is a consensus among most people that smog has the greatest impact on the respiratory system. Therefore, during smog weather, patients with cardiovascular diseases are advised to wear cotton masks when going out, and wash their faces and exposed skin immediately after returning from outside.
