How many stages are generally divided into for colorectal cancer

In real life, people only roughly know that colon cancer is a serious malignant tumor, but rarely pay attention to what stage colon cancer is in and what are the characteristics of each stage. Therefore, this involves the issue of colon cancer staging. In clinical practice, the staging of colon cancer is a prerequisite for patients to receive treatment. How many stages are there for colon cancer?

Stage I (Dukes A stage): Stage A0: Cancer is confined to the mucosa. Stage A1: Cancer is confined to the submucosal layer. Stage A2: Cancer invades the muscular layer of the intestinal wall without penetrating the serosa.

Stage II (Dukes B): The lesion invades the serosa, or surrounding tissues and areas, but can still be removed together.

Stage III (Dukes C stage): Stage C1: accompanied by lymph node metastasis near the lesion (lymph node metastasis near the intestinal wall or marginal blood vessels) Stage C2: accompanied by lymph node metastasis near the supplying blood vessels and mesenteric resection edge.

Stage IV (Dukes D): Stage D1: with distant organ metastasis (such as liver, lung, bone, brain, etc.). Stage D2: with distant lymph node metastasis (such as supraclavicular lymph node metastasis, etc.), or extensive metastasis of lymph nodes at the root of the supplying blood vessels that cannot be completely removed. Stage D3: with extensive peritoneal spread that cannot be completely removed. Stage D4: the lesion has extensively infiltrated adjacent parts and cannot be removed.
