Precautions for cervical biopsy in patients with cervical cancer

Cervical biopsy is a biopsy of the cervix. A small piece of biopsy tissue is taken from the cervix for pathological examination to confirm the diagnosis. Cervical biopsy is often used when cervical cancer is highly suspected, or when there are suspected cancer cells in the cervical scraping, or when there is suspected specific inflammation, such as cervical tuberculosis. Cervical biopsy can make a clear diagnosis and help determine the treatment method. Whether it is early or late stage cervical cancer, this examination must be performed to determine the pathological type of the cancer and the degree of cell differentiation.

The method of cervical biopsy is very simple. After disinfecting the vulva, vagina, and cervix, a special biopsy forceps is used to take a few small pieces of tissue according to the location of the lesion and the requirements, and then placed in 10% formalin solution for fixation and preservation. The pieces are then sent to the pathology department for sectioning and staining, and then observed and analyzed under a microscope by a specialized pathologist to make a pathological diagnosis. However, patients need to pay attention to the following points when undergoing cervical biopsy.

1. It is best not to do it one week before menstruation and during menstruation to prevent bleeding and increase the chance of infection.

2. The cleanliness of the vagina should be checked before the operation, and a biopsy can only be performed after confirming that there is no vaginitis.

3. Avoid blind biopsy and perform multiple biopsies under iodine staining. If colposcopy equipment is available, biopsies can be taken under colposcopy to improve the accuracy of diagnosis.

4. Because there may be a small amount of bleeding at the biopsy site, avoid sexual intercourse, vaginal douching or sitz bathing within 1 to 2 weeks after cervical biopsy. If there is a lot of vaginal bleeding (more than the menstrual volume), you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment.
