The incidence of stomach cancer increases among young people

As the incidence of gastric cancer in young people increases year by year, the peak age of gastric cancer in my country has shifted from 40 to 60 years old to 35 to 55 years old. Patients in this age group account for about 70% of all gastric cancer patients, among which the incidence of gastric cancer in young people aged 18 to 35 years old has shown a significant increasing trend. Young gastric cancer patients are different from middle-aged and elderly gastric cancer patients.

1. Atypical symptoms. Young patients with gastric cancer have different symptoms from those of middle-aged and elderly patients. The symptoms of young people are atypical, which may be related to the physical constitution and strong tolerance of young people. In the early stage, it can manifest as a variety of gastrointestinal diseases and systemic diseases.

2. High degree of malignancy. In terms of the pathological characteristics of the tumor itself, the proportion of young gastric cancer patients with malignant gastric cancer is higher than that of middle-aged and elderly gastric cancer patients, and the tumor grows and metastasizes very rapidly.

3. The incidence rate in women has increased. Surveys show that the male-to-female ratio of middle-aged and elderly patients with gastric cancer is 3:2, while the male-to-female ratio of young patients with gastric cancer is 1:1.

4. High rates of missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis. Gastric cancer in young people is often confused with gastritis, gastric ulcer, indigestion and other diseases. This is mainly related to the fact that young people tend to ignore their own diseases, think they are healthy, and take medicine on their own or do not seek medical treatment when they feel uncomfortable.
