Dietary considerations for kidney cancer patients after surgery

Kidney cancer, also known as renal cell carcinoma or renal adenocarcinoma, originates from the urinary tubule epithelium. The incidence of kidney cancer accounts for 80%-90% of malignant tumors in adults. So, what should kidney cancer patients pay attention to in their diet after surgery?

1. Patients should eat more foods containing folic acid, such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and spinach. The rich folic acid can increase the content of methionine in the blood and has a strong anti-cancer effect.

2. Patients should drink alkaline water in moderation to replenish water while facilitating the dissolution and excretion of urate, preventing the occurrence of hyperuricemia.

3. Patients should take in an appropriate amount of protein, preferably 0.6 kg per kg of body weight per day, such as egg white, dairy products, fish, and poultry. Protein intake should be accompanied by sufficient calories to maintain the patient's normal weight.

4. Patients should refrain from smoking, drinking and strong tea, and avoid eating ginseng, royal jelly and ganoderma lucidum.

5. Patients should eat more foods containing vitamin C, such as grapefruit, citrus, and lemon. Vitamin C can reduce the damage of free radicals in the body to normal cell genes and prevent cells from becoming cancerous.

6. Patients should eat more whole grains. The rich saponins in whole grains can deactivate carcinogens in the intestines, and the rich fiber can prevent the recurrence of cancer. In addition, the diet should be low in sugar and fat to avoid the occurrence of hyperlipidemia and diabetes.
