Will pathological diagnosis lead to the spread of lymphoma?

Will pathological diagnosis lead to the spread of lymphoma?

For lymphoma, which has different sites of onset and various clinical manifestations, obtaining cancerous tissue for pathological diagnosis is an important basis for diagnosing or excluding lymphoma. However, since pathological diagnosis requires obtaining tumor tissue by forceps, resection or cutting, some patients have such concerns: Will these punctures and biopsies cause lymphoma cell metastasis?

Theoretically, this situation is possible, and it is normal for patients to have such concerns. However, if it is really lymphoma or other malignant tumors, even without puncture, the malignant tumor cells will break through the capsule of the tumor lesion and invade adjacent or even distant organs and tissues. Even if they do not break through the capsule, malignant tumor cells will invade the abundant blood vessels and lymphatic vessels inside the tumor and spread widely with the blood and lymph. This is the characteristic of malignant tumors.

Patients should know that they can get a clear diagnosis soon after a puncture or biopsy, and once diagnosed, most patients will receive treatment immediately. For lymphoma, it is difficult to get a correct diagnosis without a pathological biopsy. At this time, treatment is blind, and the probability of misdiagnosis and mistreatment is also very high, which is not in line with medical standards and will cause greater harm to patients.

In addition, if the pathological diagnosis is initially considered to be lymphoma, multiple immunohistochemical staining is required for further confirmation. Even if lymphoma is confirmed, pathological typing should be continued, because different types of lymphoma have different treatment methods and treatment plans, and the treatment effects and prognosis vary significantly.
