Which pancreatic cancer patients are suitable for interventional treatment

Ms. Li Xinghua, 54 years old, went to the hospital for examination due to symptoms such as abdominal pain. B-ultrasound showed masses in the body and tail of the pancreas. A CT scan was then performed and it was confirmed that she had pancreatic cancer. After discussion with the doctors, it was decided to perform surgery on Ms. Li.

However, during the operation, it was found that the cancer had spread more seriously than expected and had become unclear from the veins. If the operation was forced, it would easily lead to dangerous situations such as bleeding. For safety reasons, surgical treatment was abandoned.

The doctor then developed a treatment plan for Ms. Li that was mainly interventional treatment, supplemented by Chinese medicine treatment, while also taking into account Ms. Li's surgical wounds.

The so-called interventional treatment is a minimally invasive treatment method that creates a tiny channel of a few millimeters in the blood vessels or skin, or through the body's original channels, to treat the lesion locally under the guidance of imaging equipment without exposing the lesion through surgery.

Interventional therapy is suitable for patients who have difficulty with surgical resection, or who have many accompanying lesions and are not suitable for surgery, or who are unwilling to undergo surgery or whose cancer relapses after other treatments. In addition, interventional therapy can also be considered for patients with advanced pancreatic cancer who have obstructive jaundice, liver metastasis, and severe low back pain.

Like Ms. Li above, surgical treatment is too risky, while interventional treatment is more delicate and less likely to cause accidental injury. Currently, interventional treatment has been increasingly used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.
