Three TCM Syndrome Types of Intestinal Cancer

In traditional Chinese medicine, intestinal cancer is called "intestinal wind", "visceral poison" and "anal hemorrhoids". Traditional Chinese medicine believes that damage to the spleen and stomach leads to the accumulation of dampness, heat and evil toxins, which take advantage of the opportunity to invade the intestines and cause stagnation of dampness, heat and evil toxins.

Damp-heat and blood stasis

Symptoms: abdominal pain and distension, pain that subsides but refuses to be pressed, abdominal mass, flatulence and distension that decreases, pus, blood and mucus in the stool, or tenesmus, or loose and thin stools, dark red tongue with ecchymosis, thin yellow tongue coating, and rapid and stringy pulse.

Syndrome differentiation: The key points of this syndrome are the presence of a mass in the abdomen, pus, blood and mucus in the stool, a dark red tongue with ecchymosis, and a stringy and rapid pulse.

Pathogenesis: retention of dampness and heat, internal accumulation of toxic blood, obstruction of intestinal qi, stagnation of qi and blood stasis, resulting in abdominal pain and abdominal masses.

Spleen deficiency and dampness-heat

Symptoms: loss of appetite, abdominal distension and sallow complexion, shortness of breath and fatigue, abdominal pain that refuses to be pressed, loose or watery stools, or tenesmus, bloody and pus in the stool, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and slippery and rapid pulse or deep, fine and slippery pulse.

Syndrome differentiation: The key points of this syndrome are loss of appetite, shortness of breath and fatigue, abdominal pain that refuses to be pressed, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and slippery and rapid pulse or deep, thin and slippery pulse.

Pathogenesis: Damp heat accumulates in the large intestine, which damages the spleen and stomach over time, causing spleen deficiency, deficiency of the body's strength and excess of pathogens. Spleen deficiency causes loss of appetite, shortness of breath and fatigue, while damp heat accumulation causes abdominal pain that refuses to be pressed.

Cold and dampness in spleen and kidney

Symptoms: long-term diarrhea and dysentery, emaciation, pale complexion, laziness, rumbling bowels and diarrhea, feeling better after diarrhea, abdominal pain with fever, or even cold limbs, white tongue coating, thready, deep and weak pulse.

Syndrome differentiation: The main points of this syndrome are long-term diarrhea and dysentery, weight loss, abdominal pain with fever, cold limbs, white tongue coating and weak pulse.

Pathogenesis: Long-term illness and diarrhea lead to weakened fire of spleen and kidney, internal accumulation of cold and dampness, and symptoms such as abdominal pain, preference for heat, cold limbs and so on.
