Abdominal CT helps you accurately understand colon cancer

In the minds of ordinary people, CT examination can be said to be a heavyweight examination. Generally, if the examination cannot find any problems, people will say that they will know the problem by taking a CT scan. In fact, this is a wrong concept. Various CT examinations have their advantages and disadvantages, and each examination has different meanings and purposes.

When to use abdominal CT

The characteristics of intestinal anatomical morphology determine the limitations of X-ray, CT and other radiological examinations in their disease diagnosis. Generally, they need to be combined with contrast technology to accurately obtain clear images. Therefore, CT examination is not the first choice for gastrointestinal examination. Clinical applications are mostly performed after X-ray contrast examinations find problems. The scope of application of abdominal CT examinations is mainly the examination of abdominal solid organ tumors. Except for malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, CT examinations are rarely used in clinical practice.

What is the significance of abdominal CT scan for colon cancer?

Abdominal CT scans cannot clearly identify the source and pathological type of colon cancer, nor can they directly observe the macroscopic morphology of cancer. The main significance of CT scans is to clearly understand whether the tumor has invaded the intestinal cavity and to what extent, so as to fully understand the size of the tumor. It can clearly understand the relationship between the tumor and the surrounding organs and tissues, and determine whether there is metastasis to lymph nodes and distant organs. These are all indispensable preparations before surgical resection of the tumor, and also provide a basis for preoperative staging.

Although abdominal CT examination is not the first choice in the diagnosis of colon cancer, it is more accurate in the diagnosis of colon cancer recurrence and is therefore often used in postoperative follow-up examinations.
