Prostate cancer in the elderly is easily overlooked

Prostate cancer in the elderly is easily overlooked

Mr. Zhao is over 60 years old this year. He has been farming all his life. Even though he has a better life in his later years, he still works in the fields whenever he has nothing to do. He always says that he suffers from many diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cerebral embolism, and needs to move more, otherwise he will easily get sick.

However, a lot of physical exercise did not keep Mr. Zhao healthy. Last summer, Mr. Zhao found that he always felt tired, especially after activities. He was always short of breath and had a poor appetite. He could not eat. His urination became abnormal, accompanied by urgency and pain when urinating.

The family took Mr. Zhao to the hospital for a checkup. The physical examination revealed that his blood sugar was 10.6mmol/L when fasting and 17.02mmol/L after meals, Cr was 367.5mol/L, and Hb was 102g/L. After taking a variety of drugs such as antihypertensive, hypoglycemic, and vasodilator drugs, his symptoms were not well controlled. As a result, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer during further examination.

Multi-organ disease requires comprehensive treatment

Mr. Zhao suffers from multiple geriatric diseases such as hypertension, cerebral embolism, myocardial infarction, diabetes and prostate cancer. Due to his old age and multiple diseases, the mutual influence of diseases, and the damage to organ functions by various therapeutic drugs, he also suffers from kidney function and bone marrow hematopoietic function disorders, which greatly increases the difficulty of treatment. Therefore, the doctor has developed a comprehensive treatment plan for Mr. Zhao that combines surgery, chemotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine treatment. While treating prostate cancer, other disease problems also need to be solved.
