What to do if skin damage occurs during radiotherapy for lymphoma

My father is a lymphoma patient. He underwent radiotherapy after surgery, but now his skin has severe reactions. The skin on the irradiated areas is very red, and some places are broken and peeling. How should I take care of myself to prevent infection?

The side effects of radiotherapy for lymphoma vary, and there are many complications, which may even cause partial functional loss. Skin damage is one of the main side effects of radiotherapy for lymphoma, and it often occurs in areas with thin and wrinkled skin such as the neck, armpits and groin. In mild cases, erythema, burning sensation and itching may occur, and in severe cases, ulcers may even appear on the skin surface.

Treatment measures for skin lesions in the radiation area of lymphoma:

1. Red spots, burning sensations and itching will appear on the irradiated area. At this time, you can gently pat the local skin with your palms.

2. Apply 0.2% borneol starch or sterilized dry talcum powder. During this period, the patient should expose the skin in the radiation field, let it ventilate and keep it dry. Avoid using vaseline ointment or wet compress.

3. Try to avoid applying soap and rubbing the skin in the radiation field, and avoid scratching it with your hands to avoid aggravating local skin damage.

4. If the necrotic area is small, you can apply moist burn ointment. If the area is large, you need to go to the hospital for medical treatment, clean the wound and change the dressing to prevent further infection.
