Methods for stopping external bleeding

Methods for stopping external bleeding

It is very common for wounds to bleed due to trauma, so the most important part of treatment is to stop bleeding. Only by stopping the bleeding can the swelling and inflammation be reduced. For patients with relatively few platelets in their bodies, it is very difficult to stop bleeding, because the main effect of platelets is coagulation. Bleeding can only be stopped by drugs. So what are the methods for stopping bleeding from trauma?

Hemostasis of external bleeding:

1. Pressure bandage method:

Use sterile gauze or clean towels, fold the cloth into a pad slightly larger than the wound to cover the wound, and then use a bandage or a strip of cloth or a triangular bandage to tightly wrap it. The tightness should be appropriate to achieve the purpose of hemostasis. This method of hemostasis is mostly used for venous bleeding and capillary bleeding. When the wound is in the elbow, armpit, groin, or groin, you can add pads and fix the limbs to the trunk with flexion to apply pressure to stop bleeding. The pressure bandage hemostasis method is suitable for bleeding in the upper and lower limbs, elbows, knees, etc., but it is not suitable for fractures or suspected fractures or joint dislocations.

2. Finger pressure hemostasis method:

Arterial bleeding should be sent to the hospital immediately. Before going to the hospital, use finger pressure to stop bleeding. It is based on the direction of the artery. At the proximal end of the bleeding wound, the finger pressure is used to press the artery to achieve the purpose of temporary hemostasis. Finger pressure hemostasis is suitable for arterial bleeding in the head, face, neck and limbs, but the time should not be too long.

Bandaging to stop bleeding is generally limited to cases where there is no obvious arterial bleeding. If a small wound is bleeding, rinse the area with saline if conditions permit, then cover the wound with sterile gauze, and bandage it with a bandage or triangular scarf. If conditions do not permit, rinse with cold water and then cover and bandage with a clean towel or other soft cloth. If the wound is large and bleeding is heavy, apply pressure to stop the bleeding. The pressure of the bandage should be moderate so as to stop bleeding without affecting the blood circulation in the distal limbs.

If the distal artery can still be felt to pulsate after bandaging and there is no significant change in skin color, it is considered appropriate. It is strictly forbidden to sprinkle dirt, flour and other unclean objects on the wound, which will cause further contamination of the wound and make the next step of debridement difficult. 2. Finger pressure hemostasis is used for emergency treatment of more rapid arterial bleeding. This method can be used when there is no bandaging material or tourniquet on hand, or when there is an interval between tourniquet placement during transportation. : Press your fingers on the bone adjacent to the proximal end of the bleeding artery to block the blood supply.

The method is simple and can quickly and effectively stop bleeding. The disadvantage is that the bleeding is not easy to last long. You should know the correct pressure points in advance to be effective.
