(I) Symptoms of lung cancer diagnosis

Anyone aged 45 or above, especially men, whose smoking index is greater than 400 (smoking index: number of cigarettes smoked per day x number of years of smoking) or who lives in an air-polluted environment for a long time and has the following symptoms should be alert to the possibility of lung cancer:

1. Patients with chronic respiratory diseases who have aggravated cough or frequent hemoptysis without other explanations.

2. Those who were previously healthy but have recently developed cough, bloody sputum or hemoptysis, and have not seen improvement after active treatment for more than two weeks after excluding other throat and chest diseases.

3. Chest pain, especially chest pain that is not easily relieved after treatment

4. Lung abscess without foreign body aspiration or other explanations, without signs of purulent inflammation, and poor response to antibiotic treatment.

5. Recurrent inflammation in the same part of the lungs, especially segmental inflammation, which develops slowly and has mild symptoms. After antibiotic treatment, the symptoms disappear or the inflammation is slowly absorbed or always exists.

6. Unexplained low-grade fever lasting for more than a week. This is one of the ways to diagnose lung cancer.

(II) Physical signs

1. Pulmonary signs: localized dullness of percussion in the lesion, decreased breath sounds and vocal fremitus, and sometimes localized wheezing

2. Extrapulmonary manifestations: Lung cancer can be diagnosed by symptoms such as pulmonary osteoarthropathy, Cushing's syndrome, hypercalcemia, antidiuretic hormone excess syndrome, gynecomastia, and hypoglycemia.
