What season is Cold Dew

The Cold Dew Festival is one of the 24 solar terms in the lunar calendar and the seventeenth solar term. Its main feature is the phenomenon of water condensation and it is a transition process from cool to cold climate, reminding us to keep warm.

1. Cold Dew is the seventeenth solar term in the twenty-four solar terms of the lunar calendar and the fifth solar term of autumn, marking the official beginning of the autumn season; it falls between October 7 and 9 of the Gregorian calendar every year. When the sun reaches 195° ecliptic longitude. "Collected Explanations of the 72 Seasonal Changes" says: "In the ninth month, the dew is cold and is about to condense." Cold Dew means that the temperature is lower than that during White Dew, the dew on the ground is colder, and is about to condense into frost. During the Cold Dew season, the Nanling Mountains and vast areas to the north have entered autumn, the northeast has entered late autumn, and the northwest has entered or is about to enter winter.

2. The temperature is gradually dropping. The three solar terms of Bailu, Hanlu and Shuangjiang all represent the condensation of water vapor, and Hanlu is the transition of climate from cool to cold. At night, look up at the starry sky and you will find that the seasons have changed, and the "Big Mars" (Antares in Scorpio), which represents midsummer, has set. We can faintly hear the footsteps of winter.

3. During this season, temperatures continue to drop in most parts of southern my country. The average daily temperature in South China is less than 20℃. Even in the coastal areas of the Yangtze River, the mercury column hardly rises above 30℃, while the lowest temperature can drop below 10℃. Except for a few river valley lowlands in the Northwestern Plateau, the average temperature for a five-day period is generally below 10°C.
