What is the difference between iodine tincture and iodine tincture? Learn the four differences early

In daily life, many people cannot distinguish between iodine tincture and iodine povidone. Iodine tincture can directly penetrate the skin to kill bacteria and play a disinfecting role on the skin. Iodine tincture has a broad-spectrum bactericidal effect and can kill bacterial reproductive bodies, spores, fungi, etc.

Difference 1: Iodine tincture is a broad-spectrum disinfectant made of iodine and polyol ether, which can kill viruses, bacteria, spores, fungi, and protozoa. It can be used for skin disinfection, mucous membrane flushing, and skin disinfection before surgery. It can also be used for bacterial infections of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as for the disinfection of instruments and the environment. Iodine tincture, also known as iodine wine, is a disinfectant and preservative used for skin infections and disinfection. The main ingredients are potassium iodide and ethanol. Its mechanism of action is to denature and kill bacterial proteins, and it has a killing effect on both bacteria and viruses. In general, the disinfecting effect of iodine tincture is stronger than that of iodine tincture, and iodine tincture is deiodinated with 70% alcohol after disinfection, while iodine tincture does not need to be deiodinated. However, iodine tincture cannot be used to disinfect broken skin, but iodine tincture can be used to disinfect broken skin.

Difference 2: Iodine tincture and iodine tincture are the same, just with different names. Iodine tincture: can penetrate the skin and kill bacteria (2%-3% iodine tincture is used for skin disinfection. 1% iodine tincture is used for oral mucosa disinfection). Povidone iodine Povidone iodine is an amorphous combination of elemental iodine and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. Iodine tincture has a broad-spectrum bactericidal effect and can kill bacterial propagules, spores, fungi, protozoa and some viruses. It is used as a bactericidal disinfectant in medicine. It can be used to disinfect the skin and mucous membranes, treat burns, and treat trichomoniasis, candidal vaginitis, and fungal skin infections. It can also be used for disinfection of hands and other skin before surgery, disinfection of skin at various injection sites, immersion disinfection of instruments, and disinfection before vaginal surgery.

Difference three: Whether it is iodine tincture or iodine tincture, it only has a disinfection effect and is of no help in the treatment of onychomycosis. Onychomycosis is mainly caused by fungal infection, so antifungal drugs need to be actively used.

Suggestions: Usually, iodine can be used directly for disinfection. Iodine tincture needs to be deiodinated with alcohol, which is troublesome. Pay more attention to hygiene.

Difference 4: Iodine is a substance with strong oxidizing properties. When dissolved in alcohol, it becomes iodine tincture. It can kill bacteria like alcohol - it is oxidizing. At the same time, alcohol can dilute the iodine tincture to a certain extent. This is why iodine tincture that has been stored for a long time will burn the skin. Alcohol will evaporate after a long time. High concentrations of iodine have a certain corrosive effect on the skin. 2% iodine tincture, 70%-75% ethanol, and 0.5% iodine tincture are all disinfectants specified in the "Technical Specifications for Disinfection" of the Ministry of Health. Iodine tincture is commonly known as iodine tincture. In fact, the two are the same substance, generally called iodine tincture in medicine. Both iodine tincture and povidone-iodine tincture are disinfectants, and the active ingredient is iodine. The difference is that iodine tincture uses ethanol (alcohol) as the solvent, while iodine tincture uses water as the solvent (of course iodine is insoluble in water and must be made through a special process). The two have the same function, and in a sense, iodine tincture is more widely used than iodine tincture. Since iodine tincture is made with water as the solvent, it is non-irritating to the skin, mucous membranes, and wounds, which is why it is superior to iodine tincture.
