Radiotherapy is one of the main means of treating lung cancer

Radiotherapy is a method commonly used by cancer patients. Radiotherapy for lung cancer plays a very important role in the treatment of lung cancer. How does radiotherapy treat lung cancer? This is the most concerned issue for many patients. Next, let's take a look at the methods of radiotherapy in the treatment of lung cancer.

Radiotherapy is a means of locally eliminating lung cancer lesions. Among various types of lung cancer, small cell lung cancer is more sensitive to radiotherapy, followed by squamous cell carcinoma, and the lowest is adenocarcinoma and bronchiolar lung cancer. The 3-year survival rate of radiotherapy alone is about 10%. Radiotherapy, surgery, and drug therapy are usually used in combination to increase the chances of treating lung cancer. Postoperative radiotherapy is used clinically. For tumors that cannot be removed, small metal rings or silver clips are placed in the residual cancer area during surgery as a mark to facilitate accurate positioning during the next lung cancer surgery.

About one month after lung cancer surgery, radiotherapy can be started when the patient's health condition improves. In order to improve the lung cancer resection rate, some cases can be treated with preoperative radiotherapy. In advanced lung cancer cases, cases with obstructive pneumonia, atelectasis, superior vena cava obstruction syndrome, severe pain caused by bone metastasis, and cancer recurrence, palliative radiotherapy can also be performed to relieve symptoms.

Patients should be aware that radiotherapy can cause a variety of adverse reactions and complications. Therefore, when treating lung cancer, special attention should be paid to the patient's diet and physical condition. If other complications occur, they should be treated immediately.
