What are the dangers of colorectal cancer

The incidence of colorectal cancer is increasing year by year, and the mortality rate is high. The 5-year survival rate is closely related to the Dukes stage. In recent years, colorectal cancer has become one of the major diseases that endanger society and human health, and it has brought great pain and distress to humans. In order to reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer, we humans should understand the hazards of colorectal cancer:

1) Age: As age increases, the time that various pathogenic factors stimulate the colon mucosa also increases. Most patients develop the disease after the age of 50.

2) Family history: If a person's first-degree family member, such as a parent, has had colorectal cancer, his or her lifetime risk of developing the disease is 8 times higher than that of the general population. About 1/4 of new patients have a family history of colorectal cancer;

3) History of inflammatory bowel diseases: Certain bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis may increase the risk of colorectal cancer. Their risk of colon cancer is 30 times that of ordinary people;

4) History of colorectal polyps: Most colorectal cancers develop from small precancerous lesions, which are called polyps. Among them, villous adenomatous polyps are more likely to develop into cancer, with a chance of malignant transformation of about 25%; tubular adenomatous polyps have a malignant transformation rate of 1-5%;

5) Genetic background: Familial adenomatous polyposis and hereditary non-polyposis carcinoma are caused by mutations in the corresponding genes. These patients not only have a significantly increased risk of developing the disease, but also develop it at a younger age.

The above are the hazards of colorectal cancer.
