Braces are a method of straightening teeth. Of course, for people who wear braces, in addition to enduring great torture during the wearing period, there are many things they need to pay attention to in daily life, especially in oral hygiene. They must master the correct techniques to keep their teeth healthy. Below, I will introduce to you the correct way to brush your teeth while wearing braces. 1. Orthodontic toothbrush Orthodontic toothbrushes are now classified into very detailed categories, such as the most common "concave" shaped one, which means that the middle few bundles of bristles of the toothbrush are made short to avoid the orthodontic brackets, and the long bristles on both sides can clean the upper and lower parts of the brackets. There is also a "mountain" shaped one, where the bristles in the middle are longer than those on the sides, allowing them to penetrate deep under the arch wire. I have tried both and still think that the "mountain" shaped one is more suitable for me because it can brush the upper and lower sides of the metal bracket separately and can also go deep under the arch wire. Although it takes more time, it is safer. Since it mainly brushes metal, the toothbrush needs to be worn out more than usual. Basically, the bristles will become worn out after 3 months and must be replaced. 2. Dental floss and dental floss puller Many people stop flossing after orthodontic treatment because of the obstruction of the archwire across the teeth. In fact, in today's market, where there is demand, there is supply, and the dental floss puller is a very good thing. Since there are a lot of objects stuck in your mouth, it is strongly recommended that you buy thinner dental floss with wax. Do not buy expanded dental floss because it will be caught on various metal wires, and then the dental floss will be split into several strips or even get hung on the bracket, which is really unbearable. In fact, when used on the back teeth, since it is invisible, even if you choose waxed dental floss, it will still get caught on the bracket, or even get stuck between the bracket and the metal arch wire, and you can't remove it. But the cleaning efficiency is the highest. So, no matter how troublesome it is, never give up. 3. Anti-caries toothpaste As a preventive measure, this should still be used. If you are a patient with periodontitis, it is recommended to use a medicinal toothpaste for periodontitis, but it cannot be used for a long time. You should switch to an anti-caries toothpaste after 1 to 2 months. I don't have periodontitis, so I bought anti-caries toothpaste specifically. The main reason is that I always feel that there are too many devices in my mouth. No matter how hard I try, there will definitely be some places that I miss. So some medication as an aid should be able to provide some added insurance. |
