Can I still drink red wine after it’s been stored for 4 years?

Chinese wine is often said to taste better the longer it is stored. The traditional nv'erhong wine is named after the parents who bury a jar of wine when their daughter is born. When the daughter gets married, the wine is taken out and served to entertain guests. However, foreign red wines are mostly made from grape juice. Fruits have a certain shelf life and it is difficult to maintain their flavor for a long time. Many people have questions: Can red wine still be consumed after four years?

1. High-quality wine generally needs to be stored for three to four years, or even longer. However, the esterification reaction will tend to equilibrium and stop at a certain level. If it continues to be stored, the alcohol content will decrease, the taste of the wine will become lighter, and the volatile loss will also increase. In particular, some mid- and low-end liquors currently have flavoring agents added during the blending process. This type of liquor cannot be stored for a long time, otherwise the liquor will become bitter and greasy.

After five years, the taste of ordinary-flavor liquor will become lighter and the aroma will weaken; sauce-flavor liquor can be stored for a long time; and there is still no conclusion as to whether strong-flavor liquor that has been stored for many years is a good wine, and there is great controversy. Therefore, the longer the liquor is stored, the better it is.

2. The possibility that you cannot drink is greater than 90%, so it is not recommended that you drink!

First of all, the longer the wine is stored, the more mellow it becomes. This generally refers to white wine or high-alcohol wine. The alcohol content of red wine is generally within 16°, which is not completely suitable for long-term storage!

Secondly, we say that wine has a life cycle, that is, it will taste good after storage, but after a certain number of years, it will deteriorate. Among red wines, 99% of red wines are not suitable for drinking after more than ten years or even decades. It is generally recommended to drink ordinary red wines after 3 to 5 years, and slightly better ones can be stored for 6 to 7 years!

Third, how to judge whether the wine is not drinkable? After opening it, there is a basic observation, which is to look at the color of the wine. If it is brown-red, it means that the wine is at the end of its life and is basically no longer drinkable. If it has completely turned brown, then the wine has completely deteriorated and can be thrown away!
