Causes of viral laryngitis

Viral pharyngitis is an acute infection of the pharynx caused by a virus. Herpes usually occurs in the pharynx, oral mucosa and surrounding skin, and can also occur on the cornea and external genitalia. Acute viral laryngitis is mostly caused by rhinovirus, influenza virus type A, parainfluenza virus and adenovirus. In the early stage, the mucosal blood vessels are congested, polymorphonuclear leukocytes are infiltrated, and exudate accumulates in the tissue to form edema. In the late stage, as the inflammation continues to develop, the exudate may turn into purulent secretions or form pseudomembranes. The epithelium is damaged and detached, and ulcers may also form.
