Can I have surgery if I have inflammation?

Among the many surgeries, appendectomy is probably the one that everyone is more familiar with, because when it comes to surgery, the first thing that comes to mind is appendectomy. Surgery can be performed if there is inflammation, and the main purpose of many surgeries is to remove the inflamed part, just like appendicitis. Before and after the operation, it is necessary to understand the patient's medical condition and choose the treatment method based on the actual problem of the body.

Among many surgeries, "appendectomy" is probably the most familiar one. Many parents often warn their children: "Don't run or jump after eating, otherwise you will get appendicitis (commonly known as appendicitis) and you will need surgery!" However, people don't know much about appendicitis. First of all, appendicitis is not the same as "appendicitis". The culprit causing appendicitis is not the "appendix", but a "little tail" that "stretches" out from the appendix.

Not only that, the doctor also pointed out that not all appendicitis requires surgical treatment, and the symptoms of many diseases are very similar to appendicitis, so the doctor must make a very clear diagnosis before deciding to perform appendectomy surgery on the patient, otherwise the patient may suffer "a waste of surgery."

No appendix, no immunity

Appendectomy is a very common surgery. Many people believe that the appendix is actually an unnecessary organ in the body, so if you have appendicitis, it is best to have the appendix removed to prevent future troubles. However, is this really the case?

In fact, the appendix is not dispensable. It is an immune tissue in the human body, which contains rich lymphatic tissue that can kill microorganisms that cause celiac disease. When people reach the age of 12 to 20, it is the peak period of growth of the appendix lymphoid tissue, and there are about 200 lymphoid follicles in the appendix cavity. After this age group, the lymphatic tissue in the appendix begins to gradually decrease, and will decrease significantly after the age of 30, and basically disappear after the age of 60.

Therefore, some experts in the medical field currently believe that there is no loss of immune function in the body when the appendix is removed in adults, but for children, the appendix may play a certain immune role, so conservative treatment should be adopted as much as possible to avoid affecting the child's immunity.

When the appendix has minor inflammation, it is best to use medication to reduce inflammation. The problem is that differentiating the severity of appendicitis requires complex biochemical tests. Many patients often choose surgical treatment to be on the safe side.

Whether surgery is needed to confirm the diagnosis

Accurate diagnosis is the key to appendicitis surgery. However, the diagnosis of appendicitis is not currently easy to make clinically. In addition, there is no specific test for appendicitis, and most of the tests performed on patients can only be used as a reference and cannot be used as an absolute diagnostic standard.

Although severe pain in the right lower abdomen is a typical symptom of appendicitis, it is not necessarily caused by appendicitis. There are many factors that cause right lower abdominal pain, and there are more than a dozen or twenty factors recorded in textbooks alone. Among these diseases that can also cause right lower abdominal pain, a considerable number do not require surgery.

In addition, whether appendicitis requires surgery depends on the severity of the appendicitis. In the early stages of appendicitis, the condition is relatively mild. Through conservative treatment and taking medication, the condition improves and there is no recurrence, so surgery is not required. However, if the disease lasts for a long time and the patient's appendix develops purulent infection, congestion, edema, perforation, etc., then the patient must undergo surgery to remove the appendix.
