I got a fever after taking the attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine

If people's bodies lack antibodies to a certain disease, they will be infected by the virus of that disease and suffer from the disease. Therefore, vaccinating the body before becoming ill can stimulate the human body to produce antibodies and effectively avoid the occurrence of the disease. However, after the vaccine is injected into the human body, a series of adverse reactions will occur because the vaccine itself is a virus. So what should we do if someone develops a fever after receiving the Japanese encephalitis vaccine?

1. What is Japanese encephalitis vaccine?

Japanese encephalitis vaccine is an effective measure to prevent Japanese encephalitis. Japanese encephalitis, abbreviated as JE, is an acute infectious disease that attacks the central nervous system and is caused by an insect-borne virus of the Flaviviridae family. It often causes death or leaves neurological sequelae in patients. Japanese encephalitis is a zoonotic disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Humans and many animals can become sources of infection after being infected with the Japanese encephalitis virus. Japanese encephalitis is mainly transmitted through mosquito bites.

Japanese encephalitis vaccines are divided into inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccines and live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccines based on the different ways of treating the virus. The inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine has better safety but worse immunogenicity than the attenuated vaccine, while the live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine has worse safety but better immunogenicity.

2. Side effects of Japanese encephalitis vaccine

1. Systemic reaction

The first symptom is fever. Mild fever is 37-37.5℃, moderate fever is 37.6-38.5℃, and severe fever is above 39℃. In addition, some babies may have headaches, dizziness, general weakness, chills, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc. The above reactions usually subside within 24 hours and rarely last for more than 3 days. If the fever is severe, you can take antipyretics. Generally, after the body temperature returns to normal, other symptoms will subside. If the high fever does not subside or there are other abnormalities, you should go to the hospital in time.

2. Local reaction

It usually appears about 24 hours after vaccination, and redness, swelling, heat and pain may appear at the injection site. Severe reactions can cause inflammation of nearby lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels. The range of swelling and nodules at the injection site is divided into mild, moderate and severe. The diameter of mild cases is less than 2.5CM, that of moderate cases is between 2.5-5CM, and that of cases exceeding 5CM is a severe reaction, which may last for several hours. If the local redness and swelling are severe, you can apply hot compress. Once in the morning and once in the evening, each time for about 5 minutes. And you should change your underwear frequently to avoid infection after ulceration. If local infection occurs, apply gentian violet.
