What to do if there is a centipede in the dormitory

A centipede is an insect with many legs. Centipede is a poisonous insect that can cause great harm to the human body. Moreover, different types of centipedes have different toxicities. Generally centipedes like to stay in relatively humid places. Therefore, you should clean your home regularly and try to avoid overly humid areas. If you are accidentally bitten by a centipede, be sure to treat the wound in time. Otherwise it will cause body poisoning. Let’s take a look at what to do if there are centipedes in the dormitory.

Centipede belongs to the class Myriapoda. The first pair of legs are hooked and sharp. There is a poison gland opening at the tip of the hook, generally called palatine teeth, tooth claws or poison limbs, which can excrete venom. After being bitten by a centipede, its venom glands secrete a large amount of venom, which is injected into the subcutaneous tissue of the bitten person through the venom gland opening of the palatine teeth and causes poisoning. Centipedes are poisonous, but the toxicity of different species of centipedes is different, and size also has an impact. Generally, the smaller the centipede, the less toxic it is.

1. After being bitten by a centipede, wash the wound immediately with soapy water and apply cold wet compress to the wound locally. You can also apply mashed Houttuynia cordata or dandelion externally. If you have systemic symptoms, go to the hospital immediately.

2. Tie a cloth band 2 to 3 cm above the upper end of the injured limb, and relax it for 1 to 2 minutes every 15 minutes. Apply ice compress around the wound, cut the skin of the injured area, suck out the venom with a suction device or cupping, and use potassium permanganate solution or lime water to rinse the wound. Those with severe symptoms should go to the hospital for treatment.

Centipedes are poisonous, and the toxicity of centipedes of different sizes varies. Generally speaking, the larger the centipede, the more toxic it is. In life, if you are accidentally bitten by a centipede, you can use the above method for emergency treatment to prevent the spread of toxicity. Of course, after simple treatment, in order to avoid infection, it is best to go to the hospital for specialized treatment.

The bite of a small centipede will only cause local redness, swelling and pain, while the bite of a large tropical centipede can cause lymphangitis and tissue necrosis, and sometimes purpura of the entire limb. Some may experience systemic symptoms such as headache, fever, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and even slurred speech, convulsions, and coma.
