Pancreatic cancer inheritance

Pancreatic cancer inheritance

Many people’s families have had life expectancy problems due to pancreatic cancer, so as a family member, you may worry about whether it is inherited through the bloodline. In fact, whether pancreatic cancer is inherited depends on the pathological state. This disease is mostly not inherited, so you can rest assured.

How likely is pancreatic cancer to be inherited?

First, friends can rest assured that pancreatic cancer is not contagious or hereditary. Some malignant tumors have a familial tendency, and there is also the phenomenon of cancer in couples, but it is not hereditary. It may be related to living environment and living habits. Diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is mainly done by MRI and ERCP. Of course, if you are wealthy, PET/CT diagnosis is better.

Second, although cancer has a certain degree of heritability, there is a secondary mutation theory for the occurrence of cancer, which means that there is a genetic background and it also requires acquired factors to stimulate it. So there is no need to worry. If your family members have this disease, pay attention to changing your eating habits, strictly prohibit smoking (this is the only definite high-risk factor for cancer), and pay attention to regular physical examinations after the age of 45. If we must have a data, we can only say that about 7% of patients have a positive family history.

Third, many cancers are not hereditary! But about 10% to 15% of cancers are caused by genetics. There are two manifestations of familial cancer: one is that many people suffer from different cancers, and the other is the existence of a certain cancer clustering phenomenon in a family. Although familial cancer can be explained as hereditary, it does not mean that everyone will inherit it. However, it should be pointed out that the common living environment and living habits make families more susceptible to the same cancer.

Precautions

During the treatment of pancreatic cancer, it is best for patients to strengthen their physical fitness, but they cannot eat anything. The diet of pancreatic cancer patients should ensure that the patients have adequate nutrition intake. The diet should be light, easy to digest, easy to absorb, and not increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract. It is advisable to eat more low-fat, high-protein, and high-vitamin foods.
