What is the normal blood sugar level at 3 a.m.?

As we all know, when a person is fasting, the normal blood sugar range is 3.92 to 6.16. However, in life, there are many factors that affect the body's blood sugar level. For example, when some people are nervous and anxious, the secretion of the adrenal glands will increase, which will lead to an increase in blood sugar. In addition, diet is a major factor affecting blood sugar levels. At three o'clock in the morning, people are generally asleep, and the time from dinner is relatively long, so the blood sugar level at this time should be low. So how much is normal?

Normal blood sugar level at 3 a.m.:

The judgment of blood sugar at three o'clock in the morning is different from that at usual times. As long as the blood sugar before going to bed is not low and not lower than 5.0, hypoglycemia will not occur at night, so it is necessary to monitor blood sugar before going to bed.

Whether the blood sugar value is normal has nothing to do with time. If the fasting blood sugar is between 3.9-6.1mmol/L and the blood sugar is less than 11.1mmoL/L two hours after a meal, it is within the normal range. Monitoring blood sugar is related to before and after meals and fasting. Standardized measurement is recommended.

When diabetic patients measure blood sugar at 3 a.m., they should distinguish between two situations:

1. If you have not eaten for eight hours from dinner to 3 a.m., it is considered as fasting before meals, and your blood sugar should not be lower than 3.9mmol/L and not higher than 7.0mmol/L. That is: 3.9mmol/L~7.0mmol/L is the normal value.

2. If you eat between dinner and 3 a.m., or if you have a snack before going to bed, your blood sugar level should not be lower than 3.9 mmol/L and not higher than 11.0 mmol/L. That is: 3.9mmol/~11.0mmol/L is the normal value.

Diabetes treatment must be based on diet control and exercise therapy. Diabetics should avoid eating sugar and sugary foods, reduce the intake of high-fat and high-cholesterol foods, eat high-fiber and starchy foods in moderation, and eat small meals frequently.

Guidance:

Only by using appropriate insulin sensitizers or other hypoglycemic drugs can the goal of long-term and effective blood sugar control be achieved. However, if oral medications are not enough, insulin should still be used appropriately.

The "dawn phenomenon" refers to a state of early morning hyperglycemia caused by the unbalanced secretion of various hormones at dawn (3 to 9 a.m.) in diabetic patients when their blood sugar is well controlled and stable during the night, that is, without hypoglycemia.

Diabetic patients experience high blood sugar at dawn, which is called the dawn phenomenon. The blood sugar rise started at around 3am and lasted until 89am.

The main cause of the dawn phenomenon is the increase of growth hormone in the body after midnight (the secretion of growth hormone by the anterior pituitary gland has a time rhythm). Growth hormone is a hormone that promotes blood sugar increase. When the level of growth hormone in the blood increases, more insulin is needed to maintain blood sugar within the normal range. In a normal person, pancreatic B cells automatically secrete more insulin, so blood sugar remains at normal levels.
