The harm of taking painkillers for a long time

In the past, if a person had pain problems, they could only endure it slowly by themselves because there were no painkillers. But in modern times, with the development of painkillers, it has been invented by most people. Especially for people who are prone to dizziness and headaches, taking a painkiller can be very therapeutic. However, there are rumors that long-term use of painkillers can have a serious impact on the human body. Today I will introduce to you the dangers of long-term use of painkillers.

Pain tablets mainly contain aminopyrine, phenacetin, phenabital and other ingredients. Among them, aminopyrine and phenacetin are antipyretic and analgesic drugs, which are the main drugs, while caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant, which can enhance the effect when combined with the former. Penmabital, also known as Luminal, has a sedative and hypnotic effect that can improve the response to painful stimulation. However, long-term use of painkillers can easily lead to addiction and tolerance, and the dosage needs to be continuously increased to obtain the original therapeutic effect. On the one hand, it can increase the secretion of drug-metabolizing enzymes in liver cells, thereby accelerating the destruction of drugs; on the other hand, because the nervous tissue gradually adapts to the drug, long-term use of phenacetin can easily lead to addiction.

In fact, the abuse of painkillers is far more than just addictive, it also has some noteworthy toxic side effects. For example, aminopyrine has adverse effects on the hematopoietic system and can cause granulocytopenia in allergic patients, which is fatal. Even when it reacts with food under the condition of gastric acid, carcinogenic nitroso compounds, especially nitrosamines, can be formed. In order to prevent it from happening, you must not abuse painkillers. Generally, take one tablet three times a day, and it can be used for 37 days in a row, and the maximum time should not exceed two weeks.

Long-term use of phenacetin can cause renal papillary necrosis, interstitial nephritis and acute renal failure, and may even induce renal pelvis cancer and bladder cancer, and may also cause drug dependence. Phenacetin can also easily cause hemoglobin to form methemoglobin, which reduces the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood and leads to cyanosis. It can also cause hemolysis, liver damage, and has certain toxicity to the retina.
