Is resorcinol harmful to humans?

Is resorcinol harmful to humans?

Resorcinol is an organic substance. It exhibits the physical properties of crystals in air. It will turn pink in the sun. This chemical was listed as a Class III carcinogen in 2017. That is to warn people not to come into contact with such chemicals to avoid unpredictable consequences. This type of substance is often used in the manufacture of dyes or some chemical raw materials. Is resorcinol harmful to the human body?

Resorcinol is used in dye industry, plastic industry, medicine, rubber, etc. Resorcinol is mainly used in rubber adhesives, synthetic resins, dyes, preservatives, medicines and analytical reagents. It is also flammable, toxic and irritating.

Is resorcinol harmful to humans?

toxicity

It is moderately toxic and can irritate the skin and mucous membranes. It can also be rapidly absorbed through the skin to produce methemoglobin, which can cause cyanosis, coma, and fatal kidney damage. Inhalation of vapor or dust by people with skin allergies or allergies can often cause dangerous poisoning. Rats were injected subcutaneously with MLD450mg/kg.

Protection

Production equipment should be strictly sealed, operators should wear protective equipment, and the production site should be well ventilated.

Health Hazards:

Acute poisoning is similar to that of phenol, causing headache, dizziness, irritability, drowsiness, cyanosis (due to methemoglobinemia), convulsions, tachycardia, dyspnea, decreased body temperature and blood pressure, and even death. A 3% to 25% aqueous solution or ointment of this product can cause skin damage when applied to the skin, and can be absorbed and cause poisoning and death. Chronic effects: Long-term exposure to low concentrations can cause respiratory irritation and skin damage.

What can hydroquinone be used for?

Hydroquinone is mainly used as a photographic developer. Hydroquinone and its alkylated products are widely used as polymerization inhibitors added during the storage and transportation of monomers, with the commonly used concentration being about 200 ppm. Hydroquinone monomethyl ether is an intermediate of edible oil antioxidant BHA; hydroquinone dimethyl ether is an intermediate of dyes, organic pigments and spices; hydroquinone diethyl ether is an intermediate of photosensitive pigments and dyes.

Hydroquinone is also used to prepare N, N'-diphenyl-p-phenylenediamine, which is an antioxidant and deodorant for rubber and gasoline. Used as an antioxidant for rubber and gasoline, a dye intermediate, etc.

In the treatment field, adding hydroquinone to the hot water and cooling water of the closed-circuit heating and cooling system can inhibit the corrosion of the metal on the water side. Hydroquinone is used as a deoxidizer for boiler water. Hydroquinone is added to the boiler water during preheating and deoxygenation to remove residual dissolved oxygen.

It is used as polymerization inhibitor for resins or rubber monomers such as styrene, butadiene, isoprene, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, etc. The commonly used concentration is about 200×10-6. It is also used to prepare black and white developers, anthraquinone dyes, azo dyes, rubber antioxidants, stabilizers and antioxidants, etc.

It is used as an inhibitor for styrene, acrylates, grafted chloroprene adhesives, acrylonitrile and other vinyl monomers, and as a terminator or stabilizer for high-temperature emulsion polymerization.

Used as a developer in photoengraving and as an additive in electroplating.

It is used as a corrosion inhibitor, stabilizer and antioxidant in detergents, and is also used in hair dyes in cosmetics.
