Why does the corner of my right eye keep twitching?

Why does the corner of my right eye keep twitching?

The older generation often says that if the left eye twitches, it means good luck, but if the right eye twitches, it means disaster. This is completely feudal superstition. Eyelid twitching can be generally divided into two types: physiological and pathological. For most people, it is physiological because they spend too much time playing with mobile phones and computers, which causes excessive eye fatigue and leads to twitching. This situation may also occur when you are under great mental stress or smoke and drink too much.

Causes of eyelid twitching:

Eyelid twitching is medically known as eyelid tremor or blepharospasm. It is a sudden repetitive tremor and spasm caused by autonomic nervous system disorder and the influence of the fiber part of the orbicularis oculi muscle of the eyelid. Eyelid twitching can be divided into physiological and pathological types. The former accounts for the vast majority and is prone to occur when the eyes are overused or fatigued, too much mental stress, too much pressure, excessive smoking and drinking, and the attack time is short (usually a few seconds) and the degree of twitching is not serious.

Prognosis of eyelid twitching:

If the eyelid twitching is occasional, the symptoms can be relieved by resting, keeping emotional stability and proper massage. However, if your eyelid twitching occurs frequently, you should go to a neurology department for a check-up and diagnosis, and then use symptomatic neurosedatives or surgical methods for treatment. At the same time, an electroencephalogram should also be performed to rule out local irritating lesions in the brain.

If the eyelid twitching is caused by chronic conjunctivitis, it can be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs such as norfloxacin or ofloxacin. If the eyelid twitching is caused by refractive error, vision correction should be performed to relieve the symptoms.
