I've had dark circles under my eyes for years

Every girl hopes that her face will be rosy and shiny when she wakes up in the morning, but this is often not the case. Some women find that they have very serious dark circles under their eyes when they wake up in the morning, making them look listless and in very bad condition. Many women have had dark circles under their eyes for many years but don’t quite understand what they are related to. Below are the causes of dark circles. Female friends can learn about them so that they know how to avoid the appearance of dark circles.

1. What are dark circles?

Periorbital pigmentation is also known as "periorbital melanosis" and is commonly known as "dark circles".

Dark circles are formed because of insufficient oxygen supply to the red blood cells in the eye skin, excessive accumulation of carbon dioxide and metabolic waste in the veins, resulting in chronic hypoxia, darker blood and stagnation, and pigmentation of the eyes.

2. Dark circles can usually be divided into two colors:

One is blue-black dark circles, which are caused by venous blood retention in the microvessels. From the outside, the skin appears dark blue. It is common in infants, young children and adolescents, and is especially difficult to avoid in people with irregular lifestyles.

One is brown dark circles, which are caused by incomplete melanin production and metabolism. The cause of dark circles under the eyes is related to aging. Long-term sun exposure will cause pigmentation to accumulate around the eyes, which is difficult to remove.

Of course, some dark circles are the response to certain diseases, which will be mentioned in detail later.

3. Common causes of dark circles

Excluding the causes of disease, the causes of dark circles can be divided into 5 categories:

① Congenital

Some people are born with thinner skin around their eye sockets. If there is less subcutaneous tissue, then when blood flows through the large veins here, a blue-black halo will appear close to the surface of the skin.

② Didn’t sleep well

There are many microvessels around the eyes. Staying up late will prevent the eyelids from getting rest, and the blood vessels will continue to be tense and contracted, which will cause congestion and edema of the blood vessels in the subcutaneous tissue around the eyes, leaving dark shadows.

③ People get old

As people age, the subcutaneous fat around their eyes becomes thinner, making dark circles more noticeable.

④Pigmentation

If you often use cosmetics, often draw eyeliner and apply mascara, and do not remove makeup thoroughly, some dark-colored cosmetics may penetrate into the eyelids and cause dark circles.

⑤Other reasons

For example, eye fatigue, excessive mental stress, mood swings, excessive dry skin, etc. can also cause dark circles.

For dark circles caused by the above reasons, usually changing bad habits can improve the dark circles.
