Do you need sunscreen on cloudy days

Every girl dreams of having fair skin, so they will try every means to use various skin care products to maintain their skin, but the most important one is sunscreen. Everyone has the impression that sunscreen should only be applied on sunny days, but few people know that sunscreen also needs to be applied on cloudy days. Because there is a lot of dust in the air and ultraviolet rays that we can't imagine, which will radiate the skin, you need to apply sunscreen even on cloudy days.

1. In the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Survey 2003-2006, researchers conducted a questionnaire survey on 5,920 adults aged 16-60, and the results showed that Caucasians who often stay in the shade or wear long-sleeved clothes are at risk of vitamin D deficiency, while frequent use of sunscreen products does not cause vitamin D deficiency. This result is not difficult to understand - avoiding the sun is actually a very important means of sun protection, and using sunscreen is a supplementary means.

2. The World Health Organization's recommendations on UV protection first emphasize avoiding direct sunlight, wearing long-sleeved clothing, sunglasses and hats, and then using sufficient sunscreen. On the one hand, ultraviolet rays will be reflected by the ground, lake and buildings, and shine on the unprotected parts of the body or face; on the other hand, sunscreen cannot block 100% of ultraviolet rays. For example, SPF15 can only block 93% of ultraviolet rays, and SPF50 can only block 98% of ultraviolet rays.

Well, since sun protection is necessary, sunscreen must also be applied, but some "little knowledge" about sun protection may be overlooked by you.

3. Sun protection is also needed indoors

It is generally believed that office workers spend most of their time in the office and only need to use sunscreen with a lower SPF; they only need to use sunscreen with a high SPF when shopping or going out for fun under the scorching sun. Actually, not entirely true. UVA has strong penetrating power and can penetrate the glass windows of the office and cause damage to the skin. And office workers don’t stay indoors all the time. They are also exposed to the sunlight and “light pollution” from high-rise buildings when commuting to and from get off work. Therefore, we recommend that you use sunscreen with a high PA index during daily work to combat persistent UVA damage. When going on vacation, especially going up the mountains or into the sea, you must not let your guard down.

4. Don’t you wear sunscreen on rainy days?

In addition, rainy days and cold winters are also times that are easily neglected by everyone. At these times, although the amount of UVB has decreased, UVA is still "rampant". UVA has strong penetrating power. Even if blocked by clouds and glass, it can still reach 95% of the amount on a sunny day. Therefore, even on rainy days and in winter, you should not be lazy and ignore sun protection. If you go skiing in winter, you should pay more attention to protecting your face.

Apply sunscreen half an hour before going out

5. Sunscreen must be evenly applied to exposed skin about half an hour before going out, especially the forehead, cheekbones, bridge of nose and upper lip, because these areas are most susceptible to sunburn. In addition, if the environment is relatively humid, it is recommended to choose waterproof sunscreen products, and sunscreen must be reapplied regularly to effectively resist ultraviolet rays. Sun protection is not just limited to outdoors. In any season and any weather conditions, the air is always full of ultraviolet rays, so sun protection is needed even in winter, especially for the facial skin. Regardless of whether you wear makeup or not, you should apply a layer of primer before going out at the end of your skin care routine. It can not only block ultraviolet rays but also block the dirty air outside, so primer is a necessary step every day.

6. Basic sun protection suggestions:

Avoid sun exposure times: The sun's ultraviolet rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Minimize sun exposure during these hours.

Use shade wisely: When UV rays are strongest, it is most important to seek shade. (Of course, no tree, umbrella, or awning can block out all the sun.) Remember: "Watch your shadow—if it's too short, it's time to find shade!"

Wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses: Wide-brimmed hats provide some shade for your eyes, ears, face, back, and neck. Sunglasses that can filter almost 100% of UVA and UVB can greatly reduce the damage to the eyes caused by light exposure. Clothing made of dense, loose materials can provide additional protection for the body (the sun-blocking effect of chiffon and tulle may be greatly reduced).
