High-speed phobia

High-speed phobia

Highway phobia is a common psychological phobia. Patients with this disorder will lack confidence when driving on the highway. They are also particularly nervous about their driving skills and may feel that something unexpected will happen to them at any time and anywhere. In fact, there are many ways to control highway phobia, such as finding someone to accompany you, planning the route in advance, and checking the condition of the car. These are all ways to comfort the patient's body and mind.

1. Be sure to check the condition of your vehicle before getting on the highway

Do "walk around the car, squat down to take a look, and start the engine to take a look again." Walking around the car is mainly to check whether the tire pressure is normal, whether the tire tread is worn too much, and whether there are nails or stones stuck in the tires, because the normality of the tires when driving on the highway is directly related to whether the driving is safe; squatting down to take a look is to see if there are signs of oil and water leakage under the car; starting the engine to take a look again is mainly to see whether the instruments on the dashboard are working normally, and listen to whether there are any abnormal sounds from the engine. At the same time, you should always pay attention to check whether there are any abnormalities on the dashboard and various indicator lights, and whether the car has any abnormal sounds while driving.

2. Plan your driving route in advance

Before traveling on the highway, you must plan your route in advance, familiarize yourself with the route in advance, and recognize the exit signs. Do not commit serious violations such as parking, reversing, turning around, or driving in the wrong direction on the highway due to unfamiliarity with the road conditions. These violations can easily cause serious traffic accidents and endanger your own and others' lives.

3. Find someone to accompany you

Even if you are not a new driver and it is your first time on the highway, it is best to be accompanied by a driver with more than three years of driving experience and who has highway experience. Expressways are different from city ring roads and also different from connecting expressways within cities. It is recommended that you do not drive at night when you are driving on the highway for the first time. Put aside your various bad driving habits on the city ring road and drive honestly and in accordance with the rules.

4. Drive strictly according to the speed limit and keep a safe distance

The maximum speed limit on domestic highways is basically 120 kilometers. Driving strictly according to the speed limit on the highway can not only avoid unnecessary fines for violations, but more importantly, it can save lives - authoritative data has confirmed that if a tire bursts at a speed exceeding 160 kilometers per hour, the mortality rate is almost 100%! From a safety perspective, driving according to the speed limit must be observed. In addition to driving according to the speed limit, it is also necessary to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. This safe distance can be simply understood as being equivalent to the vehicle speed: when the vehicle speed is 100km/h, the safe distance is more than 100 meters.

5. Overtaking on the left

Try to overtake on the left, not on the right. Even if you see many people crossing to the right, don't try to follow their lead. When overtaking, you must be resolute. After alerting the driver of the car in front of you with your horn, lights, etc., you must overtake as quickly as possible. One principle of overtaking is that the shorter the time, the safer it is. In addition, don't drive at high speed behind a large truck. You need to overtake it as quickly as possible while ensuring safety. Of course, there is no way to do this if there is a traffic jam. Also, try not to be followed by a large truck, because if an emergency occurs, you may be able to brake, but the truck may not, and you may be rear-ended by it.

6. Stay away from large vehicles

Be sure to stay away from large vehicles on the road, because small cars on the highway usually travel at speeds of over 100, while these vehicles usually travel at less than 80. Small cars often don't notice large vehicles until they are still 20 meters away, and by then it's too late to brake, resulting in tragic rear-end collisions.

7. Avoid driving while fatigued

The speed of cars on the highway is relatively fast, so you must concentrate and not take it lightly! ! Do not drive while tired on the highway and do not drive for too long. Generally, you will feel sleepy after two or three hours. When you are tired, find a service area to take a short rest. Do not drive all the way until dark and keep going even though you are obviously tired. If there is no service area, you cannot just stop by the roadside to rest. Make sure you rest on a safe section of the road, as accidents often happen in a flash!

8. Understand ETC

What is an "ETC lane"? Its full name is Electronic Toll Collection Lane, which is simply an automatic toll lane. When using this lane, the vehicle must be equipped with special on-board equipment to complete the payment. In this case, this lane cannot be used by all vehicles. Many novice drivers have driven into the ETC lane more than once, only to be unable to pay the toll and pass, ending up in a dilemma.
