How to heat fresh breast milk

We have discovered that many of our friends, including those on TV, prepare some fresh breast milk bags during breastfeeding, squeeze the milk into them and refrigerate them in the refrigerator. However, everyone thinks that this refrigeration method is very good and can keep the breast milk at its best. At the same time, when the baby is hungry, they can just take out a bag and heat it in the microwave. So what is the correct way to heat fresh breast milk?

The protein structure of breast milk will change after it is frozen, which is not conducive to the baby's digestion. Therefore, refrigerated storage is recommended. Refrigerated storage time should not exceed 24 hours.

The International Breastfeeding Association has listed the following timetable for the storage of breast milk based on years of research results:

1. The structure of milk will change, which is not conducive to room temperature storage: * Colostrum (milk squeezed out within 6 days after delivery) - can be stored at 27-32 degrees Celsius for 12 hours * Mature breast milk (milk squeezed out after 6 days after delivery) - can be stored at 15 degrees Celsius for 24 hours, 19-22 degrees Celsius for 10 hours, 25 degrees Celsius for 6 hours

2. Refrigerator storage: 0-4 degrees Celsius can be stored for 8 days

3. Frozen storage: The frozen storage of breast milk is related to the condition of the freezer - * If it is a small freezer box in the refrigerator's refrigerator compartment, the shelf life is two weeks; * If it is a freezer compartment separate from the refrigerator, but the door is often opened and closed to take items out, the shelf life is 3-4 months; * If it is a deep freezer, the temperature is kept below 0 degrees and the door is not opened often, then the shelf life can be up to 6 months or more. It is best to use plastic products that are suitable for freezing and well-sealed when freezing breast milk, followed by glass products. It is best not to use metal products because the active factors in breast milk will adhere to glass or metal, thereby reducing the nutrients in the breast milk.

It's normal for stored breast milk to break down and look a little bluish, yellowish, or brown. When thawing frozen breast milk, you should first rinse the sealed bag with cold water, and then gradually add hot water until the breast milk is completely thawed and reaches a suitable feeding temperature. Do not heat breast milk directly over a stove or microwave as this will destroy the nutrients in the breast milk.
