What does thyroid mass occupying mean

Thyroid mass is a professional term in medicine, which is very different from the mass we usually refer to. Thyroid mass means that there is a lesion or cyst in our thyroid gland, but it cannot be used to determine whether the condition is benign. We need to decide the surgical plan based on the size of the mass. Fortunately, generally speaking, surgeries for thyroid masses are minor operations and do not involve much risk.

1. Thyroid ultrasound examination is a commonly used method for health examination and disease diagnosis, but the report contains hidden secrets. It is common to see patients holding a thyroid ultrasound examination report that states "thyroid echo is uneven and presents diffuse lesions" and asking their doctors with a worried face whether this is cancer.

The description of "diffuse lesions" appears in the thyroid ultrasound examination reports provided by many hospitals. This is usually not thyroid cancer, but most likely Hashimoto's thyroiditis (also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis).

3. What causes diffuse lesions? The doctor said that diffuse thyroid lesions are mostly caused by chronic thyroiditis, but the specific cause of chronic thyroiditis is not clear at present. Some people believe that it is related to the environment, while others believe that it is related to each person's genetic susceptibility. In short, there is no very clear statement.

For those with clear causes, patients should take care to avoid or reduce contact with such causes. If there is no clear cause of the disease, there is no need to be nervous all day long. Just eat healthily, exercise moderately and adjust your mood. The only thing you need to pay attention to is: check your thyroid function from time to time.

4. Main pathological manifestations and hazards:

General symptoms: fear of cold, dry skin with little sweat, rough, yellowing, coldness, sparse and dry hair, brittle and cracked nails, fatigue, drowsiness, poor memory, intellectual impairment, slow reaction, mild anemia, and weight gain.

Special manifestations: Pale and sallow face, puffy face, dull eyes, swollen eyelids, indifferent expression, few words, hoarse voice when speaking, and slurred speech.

Cardiovascular system: slow heart rate, weak heart sounds, generalized enlargement of the heart, often accompanied by pericardial effusion, swelling of myocardial fibers after disease, deposition of mucinous glycoprotein (PAS staining positive) and interstitial fibrosis are called hypothyroidism cardiomyopathy.
