What plants can repel mosquitoes

We all know that when summer comes, mosquitoes and flies also come. Mosquitoes and flies in summer are the two most annoying creatures because they not only often fly around people's skin, making people unable to sleep, but also bite people. The place where people are bitten feels painful and itchy. So many people want to have a plant that can repel mosquitoes. So what plants can repel mosquitoes?

As the weather warms up, plants that can repel mosquitoes have become the focus of attention. Mosquito repellent herb is such a plant. It is an aromatic geranium plant with a modified genetic structure and was introduced from Australia in recent years. The plant is drought-resistant and can grow to maturity within half a year. With proper maintenance, it can live for 10 to 15 years. The shape of its branches and leaves can be changed at will, making it have a high ornamental value. Mosquito repellent vanilla emits a fresh and elegant lemon scent, which has a good mosquito repellent effect indoors, but has no toxic side effects on the human body. The higher the temperature, the more fragrance it emits and the better the mosquito repellent effect. According to tests, a pot of mosquito-repellent herb with a crown width of more than 30 cm can drive away mosquitoes in a room with an area of more than 10 square meters. In addition, a plant called pyrethrum contains pyrethrin, which can also effectively repel mosquitoes.

Mosquito repellent grass, also known as mosquito-repellent grass, is a perennial herb that emits a lemon scent all year round. It not only has an effect of repelling mosquitoes, but also has the function of purifying the air. Mosquito repellent grass can survive in temperatures above -3°C. The higher the temperature, the stronger the fragrance and the better the mosquito repellent effect. It can also be cultivated as a bonsai. Mosquito repellent grass was created by Dutch geneticist Dick who used gene fusion technology to introduce citronellal from citronella into geranium native to Africa, and cultivated it into mosquito repellent grass with mosquito repellent properties. Subsequently, Dick established a genetic company in the United States and promoted this technology on a large scale, which was later spread to Japan, Australia and other countries.

There are also many essential oils or plants in Western aromatherapy that have mosquito repellent effects, such as basil, lavender, eucalyptus oil, celery seed oil, cinnamon oil, orange peel oil, rue, sweet olive, and tuberose. Some trees are called mosquito-proof trees or mosquito-proof grasses, but they do not necessarily have fragrance. For example, neem trees and impatiens are also plants that people often plant in front of and behind their houses. Speaking of the neem tree, the azadirachtin it produces has a strong insecticidal effect. In addition, there are some other plants that have insecticidal effects, such as pyrethrum, euphorbia, datura, pinellia, cyperus, stemona, plantain, Xanthium sibiricum, and lobelia.

It is also said that mulberry and hawthorn flowers also have the effect of repelling mosquitoes. I wonder if planting mulberry and hawthorn trees is useful. People have found that ingredients such as citronellal have mosquito repellent effects, so many mosquito repellent products such as mosquito repellent oils contain it. Citronella contains a large amount of it, so a genetically modified plant called natural mosquito coil has been produced. The gene that produces citronellal is transferred into African geranium. Geranium has a strong effect of evaporating gas into the air, so it becomes a natural mosquito coil.
