How to determine whether an ulcer is tongue cancer

Generally, oral ulcers and tongue cancer can be distinguished by symptoms, condition, etc. If oral lesions occur, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time to avoid the disease from progressing and causing adverse consequences.

Oral ulcers occur in the non-keratinized oral mucosa, with a diameter of 0.2 to 0.5 cm. They are often single or several small ulcers connected together, with relatively neat edges, and are grayish yellow or grayish white in appearance. The surrounding mucosa is congested and edematous, and there is a burning pain in the area. Even severe oral ulcers generally heal themselves, and the course of the disease is usually about 7 to 10 days.

The ulcers caused by tongue cancer may be difficult to heal, and the ulcers may ulcerate, and the surface may even be covered with pus and necrotic tissue. The condition recurs and is difficult to heal on its own. There may even be bleeding symptoms on the surface of the ulcer, and the surrounding edges are irregular. The pain is very severe, and it may not only hurt when eating, but also be persistent. The pain may last for one or two months, and the use of oral sprays will not work. It may even be accompanied by bad breath, and the exuded pus may have a foul odor. Therefore, if you encounter a large oral ulcer that is difficult to heal on its own for a long time, and taking medication is still ineffective, you should seek medical attention in time to avoid delaying the condition.
