What to do if your skin is injured by cement

With the rapid economic development nowadays, both cities and rural areas are prosperous. Especially in recent years, there have been tremendous changes in rural areas. Many two-story buildings have sprung up, and many construction workers have been busy with work. However, we all know that cement is an indispensable material in construction, and cement is sometimes alkaline. Long-term contact with cement will hurt our skin. What should we do if our skin is hurt by cement?

The main occupational hazard in cement production is dust. A large amount of dust is generated in the processes of crushing, grinding, screening, batching, kiln discharge, and packaging. Usually, the free silica content in raw materials is about 10%, in clinker it is 1.7-9.0%, and in finished cement it is 1.2-2.6%. Long-term inhalation of raw material dust can cause silicosis, and inhalation of clinker or cement dust after burning can cause cement pneumoconiosis. When cement comes into contact with water or sweat, it can produce alkaline substances such as calcium hydroxide, which can irritate the skin and cause dermatitis, and can enter the eyes and cause conjunctivitis and keratitis. Raw material drying, vertical kiln calcination (145°C) and other operation areas with high temperature and heat radiation

After washing, you can apply medical Vaseline or grease oil for a few days and it will be fine. If you often come into contact with corrosive objects, wearing rubber gloves can effectively protect your hands from burns. If you have a wound on your hand, it is recommended that you go to the hospital to get a tetanus shot to be on the safe side.
