How to treat wrist sprain pain

How to treat wrist sprain pain

The wrist is where our arm and palm are connected. There are many neuronal systems inside it, and the blood vessels in the wrist are also very important. Infusion and blood drawing can be performed in the wrist. However, in our daily lives, excessive exercise, lifting heavy objects, external injuries, etc. may all lead to wrist sprains. After a wrist sprain, even the slightest movement may cause severe pain, which has a great impact on life. Here's how to treat wrist sprain pain.

First, rest: After spraining your wrist, you should immediately stop moving your hand and rest immediately. Do not add any more burden to the injured joint. This will allow the injured wrist joint to be fully relaxed.

Second, cold compress: Apply ice to the injured wrist. Cold compress can reduce the pain caused by injury and eliminate swelling, because the lower temperature during cold compress will slow down the blood circulation in the injured part. You can apply cold compresses four to five times a day, each time for about twenty minutes.

Third, compression: Using a high-elastic bandage to apply local compression to the injured wrist can reduce bleeding and congestion. Be sure to use a bandage with sufficient elasticity, otherwise it will cause numbness or ischemia to the injured wrist when wrapping it.

Fourth, raise the wrist: patients can often raise the injured wrist, which can reduce the swelling and pain of the wrist and promote blood return.

Fifth, external drug treatment: You can apply Panax notoginseng blood circulation paste externally to assist the injured wrist in repairing damaged tissues, enhancing the body's activity function, and thus playing a role in recovery.

Sixth, Gardenia and frankincense external application therapy: 50 grams each of gardenia and frankincense, grind the two materials into powder, put an appropriate amount of rice wine in a pot and heat it, stir it into a paste, apply it on the injured wrist, and finally fix it with gauze. It can play a good role in reducing swelling and relieving pain.

How long does it take for a sprained wrist to heal?

For a sprained wrist, generally speaking the swelling will subside half a month after the injury and recovery will be basically completed in a month. It will take about three months for the patient to be completely healed and feel as good as before without pain when moving. The specific time is related to the degree of sprain and age.

This sprain at the wrist is generally considered an injury to the joint capsule, but what needs to be ruled out is the injury to the triangular meniscus on the ulnar side of the wrist. The healing time is also related to the treatment. In the early stages, it is generally necessary to use a wrist guard to fix the wrist joint and restrict its movement within 1 to 2 weeks after the injury. If there is no braking, the repair time will be longer. However, if there is still obvious local pain and swelling after a month, it is recommended to review the wrist photos or do an MRI to confirm whether the triangular meniscus is damaged.

However, it is often possible to treat it with topical medications, massage, and acupuncture. This situation often requires attention to maintenance. Be careful not to overwork or catch a cold, and avoid strenuous activities. It usually takes more than three months.
