What are the causes of edema in the limbs

Swelling of the limbs is a very serious symptom, which can usually cause great damage to people's bodies, disrupt the patient's life pattern, and cause a quarterly decrease in physical strength, inability to complete various simple movements, etc. The symptoms of edema of the limbs generally last for a long time, usually up to about a week. Therefore, people need to pay great attention to it. Let’s take a look at the causes of edema of the limbs. I hope everyone can understand it.

Common edema involves the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys. Check urine routine to see if there is nephritis and pyelonephritis, and check cardiac ultrasound to see if there is any problem with the heart valves. Take an X-ray to see if there is cor pulmonale, etc. An electrocardiogram is performed to check for arrhythmia, and an abdominal ultrasound is performed to check for cirrhosis.

Common causes of swelling all over the body:

1. Edema caused by heart problems is mainly a manifestation of right heart failure.

2. Edema caused by kidney problems is mainly various types of nephritis and kidney disease. The characteristics of edema are eyelid and facial edema when getting up in the morning, which later develops into systemic edema, especially severe edema is common in nephrotic syndrome.

3. Edema caused by liver problems is common in patients with cirrhosis. If you do not have hepatitis, it can generally be ruled out.

4. Malnutrition edema. It is mainly caused by long-term chronic wasting diseases, protein-losing gastrointestinal diseases, burns, etc., which lead to hypoproteinemia and thus cause edema.

5. There are also other reasons for systemic edema, and systemic edema caused by premenstrual tension syndrome.

You can usually do some proper activities and exercises to speed up blood circulation in your body and help reduce edema. It is best not to drink too much water before going to bed at night. You can drink some water during the day, but it must be in moderation, otherwise it will cause edema if it cannot be absorbed. Putting a pillow under your feet when you sleep can help improve blood circulation in your lower limbs and reduce symptoms of edema.
