There is a lot of secretion in the ears

The secretions in the ear generally refer to earwax, which is medically known as cerumen. However, as long as the ear secretions are cleaned regularly, there will not be a lot of them. If the secretions increase significantly, it may not necessarily be earwax. Many diseases also have similar manifestations, such as otitis media, throat diseases, etc. So, what causes excessive ear secretions? Let’s take a closer look at the reasons.

1. Otitis media

Among ear diseases, otitis media is probably the most well-known. There are also many related reports warning that if otitis media is not treated in time, the ear may lose its basic function, that is, deafness. Some experts point out that otitis media is the number one killer of ear disability. Otitis media often manifests as: tinnitus, deafness, hearing loss and accompanied by pain. There are many causes of otitis media, including acute suppurative inflammation of the middle ear mucosa, and nasal mucus contains a large number of viruses and bacteria. When under pressure, the mucus will be squeezed out to the posterior nasal aperture and reach the Eustachian tube, causing otitis media. There are many other reasons that deserve attention.

The appearance of this symptom will cause papilloma in the external auditory canal of the ear, and a large amount of mold will be produced, which will easily lead to the bacteria entering the external auditory canal, causing itching, increasing earwax, and even yellow liquid flowing out. Therefore, in the early stage of otitis media, there will be a large increase in earwax and slight pain. It must be taken seriously, otherwise it may cause a lot of regrets.

2. The skin of the external auditory canal becomes congested

Our ears allow us to hear all kinds of wonderful sounds in the world. With so many sounds, our ears should be relatively strong. However, our ears are so fragile, especially the external auditory canal, which is often infected by bacteria and causes congestion of the external auditory canal. Long-term chronic congestion of the skin of the external auditory canal will stimulate the cerumen glands to secrete earwax, and the earwax will gradually increase.

3. Cerumen embolism

There is cartilaginous skin in the external auditory canal, and cerumen glands in the skin. Their secretions are called cerumen, which we often call earwax. If the amount of earwax in the external auditory canal increases, the color is often brown. Some is hard, while some is soft. It sticks tightly to the wall of the external auditory canal and slowly gathers into clumps. If this continues for a long time, the entire external auditory canal will be blocked, accompanied by symptoms such as stuffy ears, tinnitus, dizziness, and hearing loss. Especially when water enters the ears during a bath, the ears will swell after being soaked in water, and the ear canal will be more seriously blocked, which will increase the probability of cerumen embolism. Cerumen impaction not only causes ear inflammation and pain, but in severe cases it can also cause erosion of the skin of the external auditory canal and other adverse symptoms.

4. Throat diseases

It is said that toothache is not a disease, but it can be fatal when it hurts. This is because toothache is accompanied by inflammation of the gums, and swelling may occur in severe cases. The pain at this time will directly affect our ears, especially the base of the ears, where there will be symptoms of inflammation. Not only gums are inflamed, but there are also many other diseases, such as tonsillitis, acute laryngitis, tracheitis, etc., which can cause itching or pain in the ears, and there will also be an increase in earwax. If such symptoms occur, don't worry too much, because when the symptoms of the throat disease are cured and the inflammation disappears, the symptoms of excessive earwax will also disappear.
