White frenulum of tongue is thrush

White frenulum of tongue is thrush

There is a ribbon-like substance under the human tongue that connects to the tongue. This is the frenulum, which can control the flexible movement of the tongue. If there is a problem with the frenulum, certain symptoms will follow, which will make people very uncomfortable. If a person's frenulum is broken, it will affect the normal movement of the tongue, which will cause the person to be unable to swallow food normally. So is a white tongue tie thrush? Let’s take a look at it below.

1. What is the cause of white frenulum of tongue tie?

This situation should not be a big problem. The white frenulum of the tongue may be due to an ulcer forming locally on the frenulum of the tongue. You can apply watermelon frost spray or Kaihoujian topically, but of course the possibility of thrush cannot be ruled out.

What is thrush?

Thrush, also known as snow mouth disease and albicans disease, is a common disease in children's oral cavity. This disease is caused by the frequent occurrence of white pseudomembranes in the mouth, which are sometimes as white as snow. Therefore, it is also called snow mouth disease, which is common in infants and young children.

3. Causes of thrush

This disease is caused by Candida albicans infection, which is manifested by the formation of white spots on the mucosal surface. The fungus is sometimes found in the mouth and can occur in infants who are malnourished, have poor oral hygiene, or are physically weak, or in frail adults. Newborns are mostly infected through the birth canal, or through contamination from unclean nipples or the feeder's fingers.

Symptoms of Oral Thrush

A milky white, slightly raised plaque appears on the oral mucosa with no surrounding inflammatory reaction. It is shaped like a milk lump and is painless. After wiping off the plaque, a non-bleeding red wound can be seen underneath. The plaque varies in size and may appear on the tongue, cheeks, palate, or inner lip mucosa. It often occurs on the mucous membranes of the cheeks, tongue, soft palate and lips. The white patches are not easy to wipe off with a cotton swab or wet gauze. There is no obvious pain or only a painful expression when eating. In severe cases, the baby will become irritable and restless due to the pain, cry with poor appetite, have difficulty breastfeeding, and sometimes have a mild fever.

5. The harm of thrush

If thrush spreads to the back of the mouth, it may spread to the esophagus. Once the esophagus is infected, the baby may refuse to drink even water, so the baby may become dehydrated. Babies with thrush usually feel oral discomfort and will likely eat less milk, causing them to suffer from nutritional deficiencies. If the damaged mucosa is not treated in time, it can continue to expand and spread to the pharynx, tonsils, gums, etc. In more serious cases, the lesions can spread to the esophagus and bronchi, causing candidal esophagitis or pulmonary candidiasis, resulting in breathing and swallowing difficulties, and even sepsis.
