How to use pyroalkali disinfection

In life, everyone knows that summer is the season for bacteria to grow. Therefore, many people use pyroalkali for disinfection. Generally, everyone knows that the pure product of pyroalkali is colorless and transparent crystals, which are easily soluble in water and will release heat strongly when dissolved. Pyroalkali is a strong alkali that can hydrolyze the proteins and nucleic acids of pathogens, destroy the normal metabolic functions of bacteria, and kill bacteria. It has a strong bactericidal effect and can kill viruses.

In actual applications, alkali is diluted or dissolved in water to make a 2% alkali solution, which can be used to disinfect the environment and utensils for viral infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, swine fever, Newcastle disease, vesicular disease, and bacterial diseases such as brucellosis, pullorum, and swine erysipelas. 5% alkali solution can be used to disinfect anthrax because it can kill bacterial spores.

When using alkali solution for disinfection, the following points should be noted:

(1) The bactericidal power of alkali solution often increases with the increase of concentration and temperature, so hot solution is more effective for disinfection.

(2) Adding a small amount of sodium chloride (table salt) to the alkali solution can improve the bactericidal effect.

(3) Since alkaline solution is a strong alkali, attention should be paid to the protection of the disinfection personnel during disinfection to avoid burning people and animals. It is corrosive to textiles and metal instruments, so it is not suitable for disinfecting these items. After using alkaline solution to disinfect livestock and poultry houses and utensils for half a day, they must be rinsed with clean water to avoid burning the hooves or skin of livestock and poultry.

Fresh wood ash contains potassium hydroxide (caustic potash), which has the same effect as caustic soda, so wood ash water is often used for disinfection in daily applications. Usually, 15 kg of fresh wood ash is added to 50 kg of water and boiled for 1 hour. After removing the ash, water is added to make up the original amount. It can be used to disinfect livestock and poultry pens and utensils, but it has no disinfecting effect on spore-forming bacteria, so attention should be paid.

Pyrolyte is a drug with good disinfectant effect. A 2% to 4% solution can kill reproductive bacteria and viruses, a 10% solution can kill tuberculosis bacteria within 24 hours, and a 30% solution can kill anthrax spores within 10 minutes. Therefore, pyroalkali is often used to disinfect infectious diseases such as pullorum, fowl plague, duck plague, avian cholera, swine erysipelas, swine fever, bovine influenza, tuberculosis, brucellosis, and foot-and-mouth disease. Generally, a 2%-4% solution is used to disinfect the ground, animal houses, wooden utensils, and livestock and poultry transport vehicles in farms, meat processing plants, etc. The solution can be heated before use to improve the disinfection effect; adding 10% salt can enhance the effectiveness of killing spores.

When using pyroalkali disinfection, please note:

Pyroalkali can burn the skin and organs and should not be used to disinfect livestock. Livestock and poultry should be driven out of the house during disinfection. Personnel performing disinfection operations should pay attention to self-protection to avoid skin burns. Pyrolyte is corrosive to textiles and aluminum products, so such items cannot be disinfected with this drug. Trucks and ships transporting livestock and poultry should be disinfected with pyrolytic alkali solution 6-12 hours later, and then the disinfectant should be thoroughly rinsed off with clean water to avoid corrosion and damage.
