In life, we will always encounter some wounds. If the wounds are not serious, a bottle of gentian violet can help us eliminate the bacteria inside. However, with the emergence of various household disinfection products, gentian violet has gradually faded out of our lives, but in some places, gentian violet is still an essential medicine for household care. So, do you know what gentian violet does? Element It is a mixture of tetramethylpararosaniline chloride, pentamethylpararosaniline chloride and hexamethylpararosaniline chloride. Gentian violet solution is a 1% solution of ethanol and water. Pharmacological Action Gentian violet belongs to the triphenylmethane dye disinfectant. It competes with the microbial enzyme system for hydrogen ions, causing the enzyme to become an inactive oxidized state, thereby exerting a bactericidal effect. It mainly has a killing effect on Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, as well as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, and Epidermophyton, and has almost no effect on other Gram-negative bacteria and acid-fast bacteria. Indications It is used for purulent infections of the skin and mucous membranes, stomatitis caused by Candida albicans, and also for scalds and burns. Usage and Dosage external use. For the treatment of mucosal infections, apply 1% aqueous solution topically 2 to 3 times a day. For burns and scalds, apply 0.1% to 1% aqueous solution topically. Adverse Reactions It is irritating to mucous membranes and may cause contact dermatitis. It should be used with caution when there are ulcerative lesions on the face, otherwise it may cause skin discoloration. When treating thrush, only apply the medicine to the affected area. If the solution is swallowed, it may cause esophagitis and laryngitis. It is not advisable to seal the bag after applying the medicine. Precautions It should not be used when there is large area of damage. It is also not suitable for long-term use. When breastfeeding women apply medication to the breast, they need to prevent the baby from inhaling it through the mouth. When treating oral candidiasis in infants, the infant should be temporarily turned face down after applying the medication to avoid the possibility of swallowing the medication. Experimental reports have shown that systemic absorption of gentian violet in animals can cause cancer. Some countries stipulate that this product can only be applied to local unbroken skin and is strictly prohibited from oral administration. However, there are currently no adverse reaction monitoring reports on the carcinogenicity of gentian violet in China. |
