How do joint cysts form?

How do joint cysts form?

Joint cyst is a relatively common joint disease, and joint cyst generally refers to tendon ganglion cyst. This disease is more common in women and adolescents. It is more common in the wrists and insteps. Once this disease occurs, it will not only affect our joint function, but also cause physical pain to our patients. So how do joint cysts form?

1. How are joint cysts formed?

Knee cysts are mostly ganglion cysts. A ganglion cyst is a cystic tumor that occurs in the tendon sheath of a joint. It is a disease caused by the degeneration of the connective tissue around the joint capsule. It contains colorless, transparent, orange or light yellow thick mucus, and often occurs on the back of the wrist and the back of the foot. Most of the patients are young and middle-aged. A synovial cyst is a synovial cyst of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle. Socket cyst is the general term for synovial cysts in the socket. During the examination, a round mass with a smooth appearance and clear boundaries can be felt. The surface skin can be pushed and there is no adhesion. Most cysts have high tension and are firm lumps, while a few are soft but all have a cystic feeling. The cyst has a fixed base and little movement. Ultrasound examination can help determine the nature of the mass.

2. How to treat ganglion cyst

1. Pay attention to protecting the wrist joints, small joints of the feet, etc. to avoid strain. Especially for white-collar workers who work in offices and use computers frequently, they should always pay attention to the combination of work and rest and relax their wrists more often to avoid long-term chronic injuries that may increase the synovial fluid in the synovial cavity and form cysts.

2. The cyst of the tendon ganglion cyst is filled with liquid, and a transparent jelly-like substance can be extracted with a needle. Therefore, you can apply pressure to squeeze the cyst and let it heal on its own. This method is relatively simple, but the cure is not very effective and recurrence often occurs.

3. Bend your wrist or foot toward the opposite side where the cyst grows. For example, if the cyst grows on the back of the wrist, bend your palm downward so that the skin on the surface of the cyst becomes tight, and the cyst wall also becomes tense. Use your fingers to push the cyst left and right for a few minutes to remove the adhesions with the surrounding area. Then use your thumb to push the cyst to one side and squeeze it. When you hear a sound, it means the cyst has ruptured. At this time, let the patient frequently massage the area where the cyst previously existed to prevent recurrence.

4. Some cysts do not have a strong sense of fluctuation and are relatively hard in texture. They may not be burst by simply squeezing them with your fingers. At this time, you can try another method. First, disinfect the skin outside the cyst, and then pierce the cyst with a small needle. At this time, you should feel whether there is a sense of emptiness when penetrating the cyst wall. When the puncture is successful, pull out the needle and use your thumb to squeeze out the contents of the cyst. Massage again to make the cyst disappear.

5. In addition to the massage method, after discharging the contents of the cyst, you can also inject hormone drugs into the cyst cavity. Commonly used ones are prednisolone acetate, and then apply pressure with a bandage. Under the effect of drugs and bandages, the cyst walls will adhere to each other and then disappear.

6. For cysts that cannot be treated with massage, puncture, or drug injection, or cysts that recur multiple times, since non-surgical treatment is ineffective, cystectomy is the only option.
