Diisopropyl peroxide is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, ether and acetic acid. It is a strong oxidant. Its main use is as a natural rubber synthetic rubber or polyethylene resin. It is not used for vulcanized butyl rubber. In addition, it should be stored in a cool and dry place away from light. At the same time, the temperature should not exceed 30 degrees to avoid combustion or explosion. 1. Introduction Dicumyl peroxide, also known as sulfiding agent DCP and dicumyl peroxide. Molecular formula C18H22O2, relative molecular mass 270.37. Physical and chemical properties: White crystals. Melting point 41~42℃. Relative density: 1.082. Decomposition temperature 120~125℃. It is stable at room temperature and gradually turns slightly yellow when exposed to light. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, acetic acid, benzene and petroleum ether. Active oxygen content: 5.92% (purity 100%), 5.62% (purity 95%). Half-life when dissolved in benzene: 171℃: 1min; 117℃: 10h; 101℃: 100h. It is a strong oxidizing agent. 2. Synthesis Method Obtained by reduction and condensation of cumene hydroperoxide. Cumene hydroperoxide is reduced to benzyl alcohol with sodium sulfite at 62-65°C. Then, in the presence of a perchloric acid catalyst, benzyl alcohol and cumene hydroperoxide are condensed at 42-45° C. to obtain a dicumyl peroxide condensation liquid. After washing with 10% sodium hydroxide solution and concentrating by vacuum distillation, it is dissolved in anhydrous alcohol, crystallized below 0°C, filtered and dried to obtain the sulfiding agent DCP. Industrial product content 97%. 3. Main Application 1. Vulcanizing agents and cross-linking agents for natural rubber, synthetic rubber and polyethylene resin are not used for vulcanizing butyl rubber. In Japan, 70% of the cross-linking agents used for polyethylene in cable sheaths are used, and the rest is used for EVA cross-linking foam materials, rubber vulcanization, and curing cross-linking agents for unsaturated polyesters. Cross-linked polyethylene as cable insulation material not only makes polyethylene have excellent insulation and processing properties, but also improves heat resistance. Using 2.4 parts of this product for 100 parts of polyethylene, DCP can make EVA foam material form fine and uniform foam, while improving heat resistance and weather resistance. This product is also used as an initiator for polymers. 2. Used as a cross-linking agent for nitrile rubber, chloroprene rubber and polystyrene. When used as a free radical suspension polymerization initiator, it can form a redox initiator with the reducing agent ferrous salt. It is mainly used as an initiator for low-temperature polymerization of styrene-butadiene rubber and synthesis of anaerobic adhesives. Its initiation rate is 30% to 50% faster than that of cumene hydroperoxide, but slower than that of tert-butyl cumene hydroperoxide and triisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide. It can also be used as a curing agent for unsaturated polyester and a cross-linking agent for phenolic-nitrile adhesives to improve heat resistance and aging resistance. |
