What is the function of glutaraldehyde disinfectant?

Glutaraldehyde disinfectant is a new type of medical disinfectant solution. It is a highly efficient and low-toxic solution that can quickly kill bacteria in the body and effectively achieve anti-inflammatory effects. It can be used for cleaning skin wounds or medical scalpels. It can effectively control the effects of bacteria and has a good bactericidal effect on the human body.

Glutaraldehyde disinfectant

Glutaraldehyde kills microorganisms mainly through its two active aldehyde groups; its activity is affected by factors such as pH and temperature; under acidic conditions, glutaraldehyde monomers are hydrolyzed into monohydrates, dihydrates, cyclic hemiacetals and acetal-like polymers, which are in equilibrium with each other; since there are only a small amount of glutaraldehyde monomers in acidic aqueous solutions, its biological activity is poor; but under acidic conditions, the polymerization of glutaraldehyde is slow, so acidic glutaraldehyde is more stable and can be stored for a longer time. Under acidic conditions, increasing the temperature can produce more free aldehyde groups, thereby increasing its biological activity. Glutaraldehyde is soluble in water at pH 7.5 to 8.5.

Under alkaline conditions, its biological activity is high and it can kill all microorganisms including spores; glutaraldehyde can polymerize into butanedialdehyde type unsaturated polymers under alkaline conditions, and then form higher polymer forms; in alkaline aqueous solutions, the polymerization of glutaraldehyde is irreversible, and its activity gradually weakens or disappears as the polymer increases; alkaline glutaraldehyde will strengthen its polymerization as pH and temperature increase, and as the storage time increases, thereby accelerating the decrease of its activity. Therefore, alkaline glutaraldehyde is highly active, but its shelf life is generally only

Two weeks; acidic glutaraldehyde is less active but has a longer effective period, up to 1 month

Function

Glutaraldehyde disinfectant is a new, highly effective, low-toxic neutral fortified disinfectant that can kill bacterial propagules, bacterial spores, hepatitis viruses and other pathogenic microorganisms. Glutaraldehyde has a broad spectrum of microbial killing capabilities. A 2% alkaline glutaraldehyde solution can kill vegetative bodies in two minutes, viruses in 10 minutes, mycobacteria in 20 minutes, and bacterial spores in 3 hours. Therefore, glutaraldehyde can be used as a high-level disinfectant. If the exposure time (10 hours) is sufficient, it can also be used as a sterilant. In principle, the initial concentration of glutaraldehyde abroad should be higher than 2%. If used for disinfection, the exposure time should not be less than 20 minutes. If used for sterilization, the exposure time should be 10 hours. Since many factors can cause the concentration of glutaraldehyde to decrease during use, such as polymerization of alkaline glutaraldehyde, dilution with water, frequency of use, volatilization and loss of disinfectant, etc., the concentration of glutaraldehyde must be monitored every day.

Function and characteristics

This product can kill bacterial propagules, fungi and spores. It is a colorless or slightly yellow clear liquid with the characteristics of broad spectrum, high efficiency, low toxicity, safe use, low corrosiveness and good stability.

Scope of use

Used for sterilization of environments and items in industries such as diagnostic equipment, cosmetics, electronics, hotel industry, and sanitary products. For heat-resistant and moisture-resistant items, pressure steam and dry heat sterilization are preferred. For heat-resistant and moisture-resistant items, ethylene oxide gas sterilization can be used. If glutaraldehyde sterilization is the only option, the sterilized medical devices must be rinsed clean with sterile distilled water (physiological saline may be corrosive). Any medical product must be thoroughly cleaned before disinfection and sterilization; after cleaning, it must be dried before being immersed in glutaraldehyde solution to avoid dilution of glutaraldehyde.
