Sodium hypochlorite solution is often used for disinfection during flood prevention and disease prevention, and its bactericidal effect is basically the same as that of bleaching powder. Since sodium hypochlorite also produces hypochlorous acid in water, which can easily produce oxygen atoms and chlorine atoms in water, pathogen proteins are killed by oxidation and partial chlorination. Its disinfection and sterilization effect depends on the effective chlorine content in the solution. Due to the different process flows and methods for producing sodium hypochlorite solution, the effective chlorine content in the sodium hypochlorite stock solution is often different. If it is improperly prepared (due to excessive or low content), it may cause waste of solution or affect the disinfection effect. The correct preparation method is as follows

(1) Preparation steps and methods: The first step is to understand the effective chlorine content in the sodium hypochlorite solution. The general content is between 10% and 20% (equivalent to 100,000 to 200,000 ppm). The second step is to determine the effective chlorine content in the disinfectant to be prepared based on different disinfection objects and items. For example, a solution with an effective chlorine content of 0.05% (equivalent to 500 ppm) is commonly used for environmental disinfection, and a solution with an effective chlorine content of 0.025% (equivalent to 250 ppm) is commonly used for tableware disinfection. The third step is to calculate the amount of stock solution needed to prepare disinfectant according to the following formula.

Amount of stock solution required to prepare disinfectant = chlorine content in prepared disinfectant × amount of prepared disinfectant (ml) Example of chlorine content in stock solution: To prepare 1000 ml of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant with an effective chlorine content of 0.05% (equivalent to 500 ppm), how many ml of stock solution with a chlorine content of 10% are needed? Calculation: ① The chlorine content of the sodium hypochlorite stock solution is known to be 10% (should be written as 0.1 when calculating), ② Substitute into the formula:

Amount of stock solution = 0.0005×1000=0.5 (ml) 0.1 When preparing, take 1000 ml of clean water, add 5 ml of sodium hypochlorite stock solution (chlorine content 10%), mix well and it is ready.

(2) Notes when using: ① Sodium hypochlorite solution is very unstable and should be stored in a sealed glass jar in a dark and cool place. It should be prepared and used immediately. ②Sodium hypochlorite disinfectant can corrode metals and fiber fabrics, and has a bleaching effect. ③ The sodium hypochlorite solution used for tableware disinfection must not contain other impurities.
