Tinnitus and dizziness are both common diseases in daily life, but why do tinnitus, dizziness and unsteady walking occur at the same time? Most people don’t know that the ear is actually an important organ for maintaining body balance, but it is often overlooked in life. Let’s take a closer look at the causes of tinnitus, dizziness, and unsteady walking! Many people think that ears are used to hear sounds, but in fact, ears are also an important part of maintaining body balance, which mainly depends on the vestibule inside the ear. For example, when we are sitting in a car, even if we close our eyes and don’t look out the window, we can still feel whether the car is accelerating, decelerating or turning. This is because the vestibule is at work. The ear can be said to be the most important sense in the human body's balance system, but this function of the ear is often overlooked. There are two diseases that generally cause dizziness and loss of balance due to ear problems: one is Meniere's disease, which is an idiopathic inner ear disease with clinical manifestations of recurrent rotational vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus and a feeling of stuffiness in the ears. It usually occurs in middle-aged and young people. Another type is otolith disease, which mostly affects middle-aged and elderly people. Some people with this disease cannot lower their heads, and some cannot lie on their sides. This is because the otoliths have left their original positions, causing dizziness and affecting people's sense of balance. This disease can usually heal itself in about a year, but it can also relapse after several months or years. For a small number of patients with severe positional vertigo who have not responded to conservative treatment, surgery can be an option. Since the inner ear is not the only part that affects the body's sense of balance, it is impossible to determine what is wrong based on a certain walking posture. If you experience unsteady walking or even dizziness, you should first go to the neurology department for examination. After these causes are ruled out, go to the otolaryngology department for further examination. In order to prevent problems with the vestibule of the inner ear, the elderly should try to maintain a balanced body posture in daily life, especially when getting up, they should not get up too quickly, and their movements should be as gentle as possible, with not too large an amplitude. |
